"Two Sessions Yield One Fun Band"

excerpt:

Although its eight tracks clock in at just over 30 minutes, "Beer Town" is an eclectic, swinging tour de force that leaves the listener with the same question: What more could one ask for -- except, perhaps, for more terrific tracks such as "A Month of Sundays," a Jayhawks-esque country rock number written by Kirk and dappled with harmonica, mandocello, and field organ. Or their cover of Jimmy Ryan's showpiece ballad, "John Brown," which closes every Session show. Or Child's facetious tribute to the gods and goddesses who bring us the precious amber elixir that inspires the title track.

-Jonathan Perry, April 20, 2007 - The Boston Globe

Bio

Since arriving on the Boston music scene in 2003, bassist, vocalist and songwriter (and former elementary school teacher) Kimon Kirk has accompanied dozens of artists in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles. Shortly after joining David and Katie Champagne’s Heygoods he became a founding member of the Boston roots collective (and 2005 Boston Music Award winners) Session Americana, played upright bass in Ken Field’s Grammy-nominated avant-brass band the Revolutionary Snake Ensemble, and toured and recorded with Aimee Mann, in addition to playing sideman to many of the city’s most notable rockers and songwriters. He has performed or recorded with Mann, Kris Delmhorst, Jennifer Kimball, Amy Fairchild, Rose Polenzani, Jabe Beyer, Chandler Travis, Dennis Brennan, Jimmy Ryan, Ramona Silver, Anne Heaton, Nini Camps, Jenifer Jackson, Sam Bigelow, Jess Tardy, Jake Armerding, Eileen Rose, Treat Her Right, Twinemen, Seven Mary Three, and many others.

Kirk’s forthcoming EP, Eye On You, includes six original compositions that run the gamut from harmony-laden pop-rock to hard-hitting rockabilly. The new disc features a core band of Thomas Juliano (Seven Mary Three, Talking To Animals) on electric guitars, John Sands (Aimee Mann, Lori Mckenna) on drums, and Kirk on vocals, bass, and guitar. It was engineered by Dan Hallas (Sam Phillips, Moby), and mixed by Boston legend Paul Q. Kolderie (Radiohead, Morphine) at Camp Street Studios. Mastering was handled by Big Al Anderson cohort Jim Chapdelaine. Kimon now splits his time between Los Angeles and Boston.
