2015 BIOGRAPHY OF KING KoLEtis™ (long-form - by Najee Aribot)

King KoLEtis™ is an unsigned hip-hop artist just now cracking open the underground “DIY” music scene that proliferates social media and every corner of the mixtape museum the internet has become. Rather than push a half-a-dozen mixtapes a year on the world, King KoLEtis™ has concentrated carefully, methodically on the music, brewing his craft deliberately with quality in mind, not quantity.

The King was born Tymain Archie in Richmond, VA (he still calls it home). It was right around the heyday of hyphy and Kanye’s first incarnation, when Tymain began writing lyrics and poetry. He was lucky enough to be raised in a family of musical enthusiasts, many of whom are talented musicians. They inspired, and still inspire, Tymain to be passionate, true and real. As Tymain was discovering his love and skill of songwriting, Richmond had developed a unique underground music scene.

Fast-forward a few years; replace the name Tymain with his monster moniker KoLEtis™, and a royal title to reflect Tymain’s unshakeable belief in self -- and here we are in 2015 looking up to the new monarch with hungry optimism.

“Good Enough”, the King’s latest single, has become his most-acclaimed composition. It’s heavy but not heavy-handed social commentary. It’s an indictment of a society that rewards lazy mediocrity in music, while overlooking (even hating?) the substance and artistry of a “real talk” poet like King KoLEtis™ himself. With his signature slightly raspy vocal style, and lyrics that deliver both wit and wisdom, King KoLEtis™ is probably your favorite independent artist - you just aren’t aware of it yet.
