"king marquis a format for money making"

Hip Hop venues in Chicago always feel few and far in between. I think this is due to the stereotype of violence that follows the rap circuit. However, more than often can you find a good live performance and good people searching for an awesome night and a story to tell the next morning. Last Thursday, October, 10th at Novillo Night Club (2409 Mannheim Road, Franklin Park, IL) I found all those things in spades. I saw a hollow and sleepy environment convert into an extravaganza courtesy of King Marquis.
King Marquis (government: Marquis Reeves) is a business and a business man. Hailing from Harvey, IL, King Marquis has obviously studied the game and executes in a most admirable fashion. He first received my interest when a mob of good-timers gushed in Novillo around midnight and turned the VIP into a” breathing room only” section. I asked the pretty lady to my right who they were here to see and she replied in excitement “King Marquis!” Soon after, he was introduced as the first place recipient in a recent competition which also grabbed my attention. After this young man took the stage and began his act, it was a reminder of the roots of Hip Hop, islanders listening to DJ’s rhyme in time over music, a trance effect transmitted through head bobbing rhythm. This rapper's style was definitely reminiscent. But once he started yelling “Harvey World” over the mic, I knew I was witnessing an original. Being from the South Suburbs, I know that Harvey truly is a world in itself with a million stories to tell, most of them tragic. To know that someone is representing the area and making a mark across the whole of Chicago Land simultaneously is extremely satisfying.
Within fifteen seconds of any King Marquis song you’ll know he’s all about making revenue and won’t submit to any obstacles obstructing his path. His first EP is due out January, 13th, 2014. Until then, you can have a gander at the following links.

"king marquis live studio"

King Marquis a/k/a “Vonte Marquis” energizes audiences with his long awaited, youthful sound that only a true Chicago storyteller can deliver. His sound is strictly for those who hunger for “TRUTH” and thirst for “Real”. Be ready!...The beat might make you move but his lyrics make you feel….Heart and Soul.

King Marquis; no stranger to luxury, spits lyrics that introduces his fans to the finer things in life. Growing up with a father who kept 2-3 cars in the driveway (the infamous rap artist “Chick”), he learned early about riches life has to offer. Unfortunately, life with his father was cut short when 3-months after his release from prison he was shot and killed.

King Marquis took it hard but like any son groomed to take the reigns, he knew what he had to do. He came into the world the first day of the year, on the first day of the month signifying his status of someday being number one!

King Marquis lives his life by several mottos passed down to him through life lessons from his father-unveiling its true meaning more each day as his plan: Plan “A” fades into history is the fact there’s always a plan “B”. Born into a musical family, performing is his birthright-his destiny was set in stone. His parents both gave him very different lessons though… “My father taught me to be fearless, my mother gave me freedom—freedom to explore life –to become who I am- who I’m meant to be” and that only with God I cannot fail!

Taught at an early age to be true to what he believes: “real recognizes real” and to never settle for 2nd best. He has been influenced by 90’s artist like Bone Thugs in Harmony, JayZ and Tupac and effortlessly wrote his first rap at age 12.

King Marquis does not buy in to media hype that encourages artist to pretend to be who they are not. He describes himself as “respectful, well educated, genuine and collected…” I might be different but I’m just being me”. His charismatic nature undeniably lures fans and locks them in.
Born to be on top, he has inherited the throne…and it’s time to rise….

Bio

King
Marquis holds fast to his values of heart and character. With the mindset of a
true king, and the hunger of a beast, the only thing that matters now is the
top of the Hip-Hop food chain.

Born JaVonte' Marquis,
the oldest of three, his love for music started at an early age. He was raised
by a hardworking mother and stepfather on the South Side of Chicago.

Work ethic and tenacity
was instilled early on as he frequently set in on his stepfather's studio
sessions. Observant and waiting, he slowly developed his own aspirations. It
was not until age 12 that those aspirations fully developed, and King Marquis
wrote his first rap.

Though his early exposure
to music inspired him greatly, there were other matters that contributed to his
drive. No stranger to adversity, King Marquis was left with limited eyesight
after surviving Retinoblastoma; A rare cancer of the retina.

Even with the thickest
skin, King Marquis could not help but feel different. Not immune to human
nature, being taunted by some of his grade-school peers inevitably caused
slight insecurity. Refusing to be held back, King Marquis took the ridicule in
stride, using it as fuel for fire and later accepted it as a greater gift than
curse.

Now in his prime at
22-years-old, King Marquis is ready to bring his career full circle. In control
of his own destiny he remains loyal to Dyn2Live Records, an independent label
managed by family. Despite his uncle's established position with RCA Records,
King Marquis values creating his own success and starting from the bottom.

Influenced by 90's Hip
Hop, King Marquis looks up to artist such as; Tupac, Bone Thugs & Harmony,
Eminem and more. Working from the ground up with a small but loyal team, King
Marquis is ready to make his presence known.
