"The 39 most memorable pop music moments of 2008"

Obama songs!?Most politicians only warrant songs when they've done something irascible, like start a war or clamp down on pot dispensaries. But this year had quite a few bangers about the president-elect. Nas' "Black President" probably tops the list, followed by Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige, Common, Don Omar, Cocoa Tea, Mavado and scads more. But our personal favorite is the Lady Tigra's "First Black First Lady," a deeply funky and quite funny R&B retelling of the Obamas' courtship. (AB) Photo: Associated Press - L.A. Times

"The Lady Tigra Debuts A Classic Of The 2008 Campaign"

Last night at Obama-rama, a fundraiser at Spaceland in Silver Lake, The Lady Tigra and Le C (King Crab) debuted their new track "First Black, First Lady." It's a celebration of this moment in history, a shout, an affirmation, a rallying cry: "Black first lady! First black, first lady!" goes the chorus as the pair rhyme about Michelle and Barack Obama and the potential of not only the first black president, but the first first lady, as well. By the end of the song the two are chanting, "Everybody in the White House!" - L.A. Weekly

Bio

"Guns & Roses never really came up with a record to rival Appetite. And so it was for King Crab, Park Slope's most exciting rap duo in 2000. Their first effort, Seasons of Man, was so universally hailed by fans and critics alike, that a sophomore effort was never realized. After the final show of King Crab's 2002 European tour, "We Just Started Rapping In February", Mc Le C and The Lyrical Whip stayed on indefinitely in Copenhagen and took to a life on the streets. Good thing they could bake. Mc Le C made a life for himself coaching recreational youth soccer. The Lyrical Whip took to the accordion with a desperate passion that shook the cobble stones of Rådhuspladsen Square to their very foundation. And yet the two still managed to perform once a year, usually on the anniversary of Black Tuesday, for five years. In 2006 they made it back to the U.S. and managed to play a friend’s garage, The Echo in L.A., and an impressive residency at Club 1650 on Schrader-formerly Vinyl, now a parking lot. On New Years Eve 2007, they performed the entirety of their ep Seasons of Man on the subway from the Upper West Side of Manhattan back to Brooklyn. In 2008 the Whip produced "Black First Lady," a song for Michelle Obama, which Le C rapped with The Lady Tigra at places like The Viper Room and The Key Club in Los Angeles. Their underground video hit "2057" was directed by Jason Rosencrantz and Le C and the Lyrical Whip combined to illustrate the entire video by hand. In a pinch, they can rap eachother's parts. And now, the world awaits the most exciting ten year reunion since Halbrook Grove Highschool's Class of 1983. Feast your ears, Ladies and Gentlemen, on Binary Stargument: King Crab's revamped 2001 debut recording. Coming soon to a Backwoods roadhouse near you."
