Bio

Chemistry of Hip Hop and Reggae - The coalescence of Harlem, NY and Jamaica, W.I., King Jazzy not only delivers the raw, irresistible sound of Jamaican-American dance music, he has lived it from his youth.

Raised by an artistic-gypsy-single-mom, Jazzy made his way from East Harlem as a youth to the streets and sounds of Miami, to the hills of Jamaica where he and his brother experienced from a young age the “sound-system culture” of the island’s music adoring population. Step-father to the young artist, Dicky Dread of Black Love Sound raised Jazzy in the ways of roots culture, steeping him in the deep musical traditions of the island, and instilling in him a strong sense of positivity, perseverance and artistry - keeping him afloat even through the rough waters of poverty.

At 18, Jazzy returned to NYC and launched his personal artistic career which has included, among many additional adventures; running recording studios in Michigan, Jamaica and NYC; performing and recording nationally with the top names in reggae and hip hop; launching both video and clothing companies; promoting culture events and supporting his mom’s guest house in Jamaica.

A true hustler, Jazzy has been a relentless innovator and performer of his original music from coast to coast. His sound is both roots and now; a tasty blend of depth and hipness that he has lived since his youth and only naturally permeates his craft.
A casual listen to his 2005 release “Jazzifrass” reveals an artist of the great American song-crafting tradition as well as a tough, electronic-edged caribbean just at home in the tropics.

Currently bounced between Detriot, MI and Harlem, NY, King Jazzy has recently: Toured the west coast of the US with reggae legend Sugar Minot, sang on and starred in music videos for Paradime (Kid Rock’s DJ), collaborated with Denaun aka Kon Artis of D12 (Eminem crew), shared the stage and opened for the likes of Buju Banton, Sizzla, Luciano, Capleton, Junior Reed and many more. The single “Neva Guna Change” is currently in rotation on Detroit radio, and “Plain Clothes” is breaking in Jamaica.

Well-poised to launch as the new captain of American Urban music, Jazzy has been compared to rappers, singers, roots rockers and the world’s finest entertainers. Just as explosive rockin’ over beats provided by a DJ as he is fronting a full live band, the King Jazzy stage show consistently leaves audiences energized from dancing all night and begging for more.... as King Jazzy puts his mission - “Shake the world awake.”
