Bio
Archy Marshall -aka Zoo KId/King Krule etc- like many a teenager growing up in south east London, some days feels like the weight of the entire planet is pushing down square between his shoulder blades. On others, it were as if he were lifting it up on those same shoulders, effortlessly, nonchalantly even. Something that marks Archy out from his friends however, is his stunning ability to turn these intense emotional peaks and troughs into spectacular pieces of artful, atmospheric and anthemic balladeering. Over the past eight months his name has torn across globe since the video for his debut single 'Out Getting Ribs' on NME, and within 48 hours spread from Fader to Pitchfork and onto the screens of over six hundred thousand screens across the globe.
Archy's heroes are an intriguing mix. If you ask him for a current crush he'll swoon on in his own inimitably coy-cum-swaggering-manner about mysterious East End/Berlin hopping art-house-pop chap Kindness. Though his lifelong inspirations include everyone from Gene Vincent and Fela Kuti to Penguin Cafe Orchestra and Elvis Presley. And rather than those being the de rigeur list of empty name-drops that fill fledgling social networking profiles everywhere, in Zoo Kid's songs you can genuinely indentify this marriage of esoteric textures, despondent, fidgeting moods and classic, smouldering crooning. "Recessions, depressions and sociology lessons", reads the sloganeering on his Myspace. Well there you go, he said it better in four words.
