Bio

King Me met in a living room early 1999. At first it was just a gathering of some friends who wanted to record some songs for private use. As by bizarre coincidence it was cheaper to press 1000 CDs than 300, so some CDs were send to magazines. A few weeks later King Me got a call to play Paradiso, Amsterdam. In a hurry a stage band was formed and from then on King Me always has been somewhere between a project and a “real band”. A lot of radio shows (a.o. VPRO 3VOOR 12, VPRO De Avonden, 2 Meter Sessions, USA, French and Chech Radio shows) and a lot of well known concert venues (a.o. Paradiso, Vera, Nighttown, Rotown) followed. A record deal was signed. King Me played with bands like Timesbold, Herman Düne, Swearing at motorists, Dead Man Ray, Sin Ropas, the Ex and Bettie Serveert. CDs got wonderful press reviews (Oor, Music Maker best authors release, FRET, Aloha) as well as some really bad reviews (chosen by VPRO’s Jaap Boots as worse band of the year). It’s the kind of music King Me makes: love it or hate it …

Records were released in Holland, Italy, Belgium, USA, Spain and Portugal.

King Me’s music is referred to as somewhere between Velvet Underground, Tindersticks, Sparklehorse, Pavement, Nick Cave, Smog and Radiohead

King Me’s latest release “Them Brawlers" was mainly recorded in the infamous “Next to Jaap Studio”, will be released in March 2010 and is the best King Me has made so far.
