King Saturday

BandRockPop

Royal Rock for any day of the week. King Saturday blends straight-forward roots rock with a melodic, harmonious core. Big guitars, lush keyboards and vocal harmonies, and driving rock rhythms make for a compelling, original sound and stage show.

Biography

King Saturday was born in March 2011. On a Sunday, ironically enough. He may not look familiar, but The King has some venerable ancestors. Read on....

What would one day become King Saturday started out in 1995, drummer and vocalist Pete Wilson (formerly of Chicago favorites The Smoking Fish from 1989-1992) joined lead guitarist Max Minkus and bassist/vocalist Tom Ramsdell (also formerly of the Smoking Fish) and started working on a set of original and cover material. With a rotating cast of rhythm guitarists, the band -- then known as Medicine Hat -- solidified its sound and quickly became a fixture on the Chicago club scene, playing regularly at well known north side venues such as Otis', Brother Jimmy's, Hoghead McDunna's, and others.

When guitarist and vocalist Tony Hind finally locked down the fourth spot in 1997, the band entered a creative period, using its newfound stability to generate waves of new material, culminating in the self-produced 2000 release "Volume One". While continuing with limited club bookings and other live performances, the band continued to hone its signature sound and develop a catalog of original material, some of which became the band's second recording,"The String Theory EP", released under the new name Citizen Puppet in 2005. From 2005-2010, the band continued to work on new material and play limited club dates at venues such as C.J. Arthur's and The Alley.

Early in 2011, Max, Pete and Tony started working with bass player Larry Malitz (formerly of Mr. Slate) and keyboardist/vocalist Bob Sides (formerly of Baghdad Jones, Blue Marvin). Larry and Bob officially joined the band in March, and King Saturday was born.

New name, new lineup, new location....but the music never stopped. Stay tuned for the further adventures of the King.....
