Some might mistake Austin quartet King Tears for goths: They're named after a local mortuary, and their debut takes its title from three common methods of capital punishment. Yet there's not a single murder ballad here; even "Heaven or Hell" turns out to be about a difficult relationship instead of any afterlife destination. Conveniently positioned between Moonlight Towers' fuzzy pop and Milton Mapes' grizzled Americana – Towers' James Stevens recorded the album; Mapes' Greg Vanderpool did the cover art – Rope's nine songs are cut from the same rustic cloth. Steady, unforced tempos, and well-placed banjo and harmonica, lend an unmistakable air of Big Pink to the proceedings. "Beg Me to Follow" invites the Grooveline horns inside for some shambling fireside Stonesery, and "Comin' Around" choogles along like John Fogerty bumping into the Faces at last call. If some songs (the title track) are a little too soft-focus at times, their unflagging amiability grants them the necessary leeway. This is music meant for relaxing on the porch, with a tall glass of lemonade or something stronger, whiling away the lazy summer hours in the shade. Indeed, Rope Chair Needle offers precious little to cry about at all.

King Tears is one of the most compelling rock bands creating music today, impossible to pigeon hole into any one style, King Tears dons many harmonious crowns: Rock, Pop, Blues, Psychedelic and R&B. They create lush sounds, pulsing rhythms and arresting melodies into undisguised, heartfelt compositions.

Inspiration comes to King Tears in many innovations, from the peaceful tranquility found watching clouds softly oscillate across the early evening sky to the arresting discord felt when staring directly into the bright, afternoon sun.

In a musical landscape where bands and artists sound the same from song to song, from album to album, King Tears defies classification creating radiant and seductive hymns for an untouched musical world.

King Tears emerged in 2000 from Austin, Texas the brainchild of two skill full songwriters Cliff Brown Jr. and David Hess. They quickly formed an imaginative, creative and prolific collaboration.

King Tears have released two recordings to date :: Down in Luck EP and Rope Chair Needle, on their own label, Southern Songs Ltd. Currently, they are hard at work recording tracks for two upcoming releases: with a release date for their third and most exciting release to date tentatively titled, King Tears: Get Saved.

King Tears' music has been featured in nationally syndicated television programs and played on radio stations across the globe from St. Louis to Iraq. Touring regionally they aspire to reach national and international audiences in support of their new recordings. Please stay tuned for their reign has just begun.
