Bio

Kiran Sing and Atma is a project close to my heart. The project is a blend of everything I am; what I have experienced and seen in my life. Kiran Sing and Atma is a fusion of Soul, Jazz, South African and North Indian music. This fusion comes through their belief that "music could be the band aid the world needs, it can inspire the change to start its healing process."
Our influences span the likes of Miles Davis, Ravi Shankar, and John Coltrane to Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder and The Roots.
The group is made up of Kiran Sing on Vocals/ Wurlitzer Electric Piano/ Acoustic Guitar, Ram Vakkalanka on Sitar, Amar Seepersad on Tabla/ Dholak/ Percussion, and Ryan Seepersad on Tabla/ Percussion.
Kiran Sing has been a playing in R&B, Funk and Jazz bands around the Toronto area for many years and has had radio play on CBC radio 1 and radio 2, WAVE 94.7FM and many other stations across Canada and the US.
Ram Vakkalanka has been playing for 20 years in India and the Toronto area. Ram has studied with Pt. Atmaram Kelwadkar, Prof. Shambhu Das and Sitar Maestro Ravi Shankar.
Amar Seepersad Has studied Tabla with Ritesh Das And Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri for 10 years. Amar now studies with Sri Hindol Majumdar. Amar also plays Dholak and accompanies many of Toronto’s ghazal artists. He was a co-founding member of the Toronto Tabla Ensemble.
The youngest of the group Ryan Seepersad, started his Tabla training at the age of 4 1/2 under the supervision of his dad Amar Seepersad. He has performed at Telus Mosaic Festival and at the Harbour Front Centre with the Toronto Tabla Ensemble.
Kiran Sing and Atma have seen how music can break all boundries. Fusing different styles only works when you are being true to everyone's individual styles. This is true soul music...organic, meaningful and relevant to life in modern Canada.
