Bio

The Tambours, Ecoteur, John Kruth, Carnival Strippers and the Victor DeLorenzo Band have all had a common contributor - Kirk McFarlin, a multi-instrumentalist, writer, and singer. His work has been very influential relative to the ‘sound’ of each noted above as he brings a uniquely individualized musical sensibility to all bands with whom he has played.

A veteran of Milwaukee’s fertile 1980s alternative scene, Kirk McFarlin’s musical history includes stints in some of that city’s landmark bands, from psychedelic new-wavers Einstein’s Riceboys to the audaciously rocking Cherry Cake. In addition to extensive work with friend and former Violent Femme Victor DeLorenzo, there was college radio-favorite Ecoteur (Chameleon/Capitol), who enjoyed modest MTV exposure, and whose 1990 release Weekend Guru boasted production by legendary figure Shel Talmy, famed hit-maker for the Kinks and the Who.

Later in 1994, McFarlin joined Carnival Strippers, who signed with Fox/Zoo Records. Their song “Cot”, from the Reveal album, appeared in the soundtrack to the movie Speed (20th Century Fox).

Leaving the road behind, he remained an on call session musician and resided in the studio for several years, continually writing and recording his own original material. A collection of these songs is included in a much anticipated upcoming album release.

Returning to the regional live music circuit, with Kirk now leading the sound, the result is very much an ideal blend of old and new. Through past influence and present inspiration, filled with organic Americana, slinky synthesizers and confessional songwriting, we have a tough yet sweet, hard edged and fluid musical experience. He knows where a natural, rock riff has been, and can deposit it right here for the listener's most educated interest.

Kirk McFarlin has traveled much in music and while sometimes off the map, his path to what is absolutely necessary is not a lost road taken for the sake of just going there.
