Kirsten Knick

Kirsten Knick was born in San Fransisco in 1988. She spent much of her early years at the side of her ocean-faring father, racing sailboats in the bay and listening to his Neil Young, Kate Bush and Brian Eno records. In 1999, the family moved inland in search of work. There, whilst learning the songs from her own Tom Petty and Velvet Underground records, she fortuitously discovered two abandoned horses, Annie and Pandora, that she adopted and nursed back to health. This childhood spent sailing on the ocean and in company of wild animals, with a rich and varied soundtrack playing all the while, formed a bed of inspiration that drives Kirsten's musical creativity today.

At 17 she moved back to San Fransisco where she met Will Ivy with whom she co-founded her first band, Lilac, as vocalist, keyboard player and co-writer. The band recorded three records at Different Fur Studios, the first released on Omega Records and the subsequent two on Burger Records.  

After Kirsten moved to LA in 2012, Lilac disbanded and she started working on her first material as a solo artist. At the end of that year she went to Europe and began recording with Rupert Clervaux, a co-founder of Sian Alice Group who also works with Spiritualized, Hot Chip and Spring Heel jack amongst others. Working at Rupert's London studio Kirsten quickly amassed an extensive body of material. Live shows are planned in the UK and US for the rest of 2013, alongside ongoing studio time to experiment with new instrumentation and approaches to complement Kirsten's instinctive and spontaneous songwriting.
