Songwriter Kirsty McGee is internationally renowned for the haunting stalker lullaby 'Sandman', featured in Danny Boyle's psychological thriller Trance (2013). It's one of those indescribable songs which inhabits a world beyond melody and meaning...but there's plenty more of that to be found among the seven albums comprising her breathtaking back catalogue. Fronting the award-winning Hobopop Collective, Kirsty has created a unique songbook, drawing on old vinyl blues, gospel, '30s jazz, Brechtian ballads and Brill Building sensibilities...all couched in whiskey tones, rending refrains and good old fashioned raw honesty. Backed by the finest musicians in her native Manchester, and the occasional stellar guest (look out for Tom Waits guitarist Marc Ribot on her 'Those Old Demons' LP) Kirsty is a genuine original: a multi-instrumentalist equally at home with the flute and the musical saw; a songsmith with very few peers at her level of craft and a voice that has been described as having the texture of smoke and velvet.
