Bio

Kirt Debique is an artist from the Pacific Northwest whose sweeping dark synth textures backed with edgy beats bring to mind late-era Bowie and Joy Division. A part of the Seattle music scene for the past few years, Kirt released his debut solo album, Things Left Unsaid, on October 23rd, 2015. A follow-on single, Descent, was released on February 12th, 2016. He has played shows across North America including Portland, Oakland, San Francisco, Boise, Brooklyn, Atlanta, Vancouver BC, Toronto, and Seattle as well as several cities in Western Europe including London, Paris, Cambridge, and Winterthur. Syncretic, mysterious and modern, Kirt is also the founder of Brick Lane Records

PRESS CLIPPINGS

Consequence of Sound - “Debique transitions seamlessly between serene piano ballads like “Tell Me How You Know” to the rumbling synth bass-filled “Ghosts”. Each track feels like an impulse, blurting out feelings and emotions held back for too long. Intended to be consumed in one sitting, it’s a beautiful and manic look at trying to find peace within crumbling relationships.”

God Is In The TV - “…the same gritty industrial clout as, say, Gary Numan‘s latter years, or perhaps even Nine Inch Nails. And what’s more, it really is rather splendid.”

Never Enough Notes - “Kirt Debique’s deep-reaching texture-heavy album ‘Things Left Unsaid’ is a bold body of work…choosing to fuse brooding electronic vibes, barely-there shades of hip-hop, and modern classical sounds in the most intimate way we’ve ever heard. Low, oddly-soothing vocals tower over against brooding, haunting bass and synth (think Gary Numan making edgy 90s space film soundtracks)”

Cougar Microbes - “‘Descent’ channels latter day David Bowie‘s class and attention to detail never showboating for the sake of it but rather delivering a calculated emotional attack. Over what is an intentionally distant musical backdrop Debique‘s voice provides an organic counterpart which makes it compelling listening.”

Mass Appeal - “Kirt Debique’s sonic pain is unparalleled. Blending dark electronic music with a touch of soul and goth, the Seattle by way of Trinidad singer-songwriter orchestrates a distinct sound evoking sorrow and remorse…His vocals are self-reflective, bleeding with powerful emotion.”

Secretly Important - “It is clear that he is working at a highly personal and poetic level… Debique really seems like he’s poised to break out with this record, certainly he’s put the artistry into it”

We Close Tonight - “Sometimes you’re able to achieve the most inspirational sounds when you dwell in the darkness and it feels as though our aural host has become a true master of everything that remains untouched by the sun’s rays. You don’t need to go outside today – just close the curtains and indulge in these billowing depths of sonic genius.”

Music&Riots Magazine - “There are two things that strike almost instantly with Kirt Debique’s debut album. First is his low and sweet voice. Second is how heavily emotional and heartfelt these eight tracks are and feel like. Things Left Unsaid is an electronic record at its core, relying heavily [on] incisive rhythms…Much more than just a mere collection of musical tunes. Things Left Unsaid is something to connect with. The fact that Kirt has a great voice and is able to deliver melodies that are memorable… well, it doesn’t hurt!”

Sonic Breakfast - “I need to invest in a CD player to listen to albums as moving as the new release from [Kirt Debique]…This is an album that lays demons bare; it knocks down the walls and barriers we all create around our hurt in order to protect and encourages us to dig deeper within our key relationships to become better citizens.”

Get Ready to Rock - “Kirt Debique has produced a thought provoking and enjoyable debut album that succeeds on two levels, his vocals and the electro/beats driven backing. Discovering an album like this is why I love music and reviewing it so much.”

Get Into This - “Grandiosely lavish yet heart-wrenchingly tender…a seizing low vocal that straddles warmth and detachment with prodigious poise and an instrumental both restrained and expressive in its passion.”

Stereogum - “a stunning, albeit creepy video for the album’s first single”

Contrast Control - “Kirt Debique has created an inspiring album”

Uber Rock - “…this is all pretty powerful stuff”
