An ALL-CHICK BAND from ALL OVER the GLOBE
Kiss the Girl is an all-star cast of female musicians from around the world. Australian guitarist and singer Lecia McPhail-Bell met drummer Janneke van Heeswijk of The Netherlands at Griffith University on The Gold Coast in Australia. Their encounter sparked the concept of an all-female, international pop rock band. They soon added Latin folk-rocker Gina Chavez from Texas and bassist Sophie van Schaik from the Netherlands. This all-star cast of songwriters and musicians combine elements of pop, rock and dance that speak to the likes of Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Fleetwood Mac and Janis Joplin.
Line up:
Lecia McPhail-Bell – Guitars, Vocals
Janneke van Heeswijk – Drums, Vocals
Gina Chavez – Rhythm Guitar, Charango, Vocals
Sophie van Schaik – Bass, Backing Vocals
Lecia McPhail-Bell:
Lecia is a sensational guitarist and songwriter, who has performed throughout the United States, Dubai, London, Abu Dhabi, Australia, Holland, The Solomon Islands, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore. Having supported James Morrison, Shannon Noll, Daryl Braithwaight, Mental as Anything, Phil Emmanuel, Killing Heidi, Grinspoon and Jon Stevens (INXS, Noise Works), Lecia independently released her second album, Into Being (Folk/rock/alternative), in 2008. Her songs are now in regular rotation on radio stations in the U.S., parts of New Zealand and around Australia. For more information, visit www.leciamusic.com.au.
Janneke van Heeswijk:
Janneke is an ambitious drummer whose talent and vocals have taken her to the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Belarus, South Korea, United States, Australia, Spain, and Italy, where she has toured with her own band, Grietje, as well as in Beatles tribute bands, including The Old Brown Shoes and Mal Evans Memorial Band. She is currently touring 100 theaters in Holland and Belgium with pop/cabaret duo Veldhuis & Kemper. Her band has supported E.L.O. and Steve Lukather in The Netherlands and with intensive tours promoting her debut album, Across Borders, which she released under her performance name Grietje, Janneke has been gaining a lot of airplay and TV coverage. Gina Chavez:
Plucking her custom-built charango, Latina folk-rocker Gina Chavez is heralded the Joni Mitchell of Latin music. Her percussive guitar sets the mood for lyrical scenery, but it’s the folkloric “Embrujo” of Gina’s voice that sears the memory. Gina has released two albums, Hanging Spoons (2007), and LIVE at Ruta Maya (2009), and toured with Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, shared the stage with Ozomatli, Grupo Fantasma and Del Castillo, and represented the City of Austin on the 2011 Austin Music Vol. 10 compilation and as a cultural ambassador to Japan. National Public Radio touted her one of eight “New Latin Artists at SXSW” and her music a “perfect mix of Latin, folk and bluegrass,” calling Gina a “proud example of Austin music. She recently returned from eight months of volunteer work in a gang-dominated suburb of San Salvador and established Austin 4 El Salvador, a college scholarship fund for the girls she taught there. Sophie van Schaik:

Since completing her popmusic study at the rockacademy, Sophie has been touring The Netherlands’ festival circuit with Lois as well as Dutch singer/songwriter Eefje. She can be heard on national radio and seen on such television shows as 3 fm and De Wereld Draait Door. Sophie is currently in the studio with projects ranging from funk and soul to singer/songwriter and blues rock.
