Bio

The Name: “Kid In Trainin” represents eternal youth. The thought that we are kids, questioning and maintaining a strong sense of curiosity.

How I Started: I used to going in the basement and watch my brother and his best friend record on a cassette tape through a karaoke machine for hours. One time he actually let me do the chorus for a song.
In 9th grade is where it really started. My brother was part of the generation whose dreams were of getting rich from rapping. Me wanting to be just like him because he had become my male role.
No clue how it really started but I had met another friend who rapped and he an my brother ended up having “rap beef.” Of course I sided with my brother and dissed my friend but it was cool because it wasn’t some “im gonna fight you” beef. I would make a diss track and go and hang with my friend who I just dissed and laugh together. It was stupid but it was exciting, something like the descriptions of when people first saw DJ Hollywood spinning at a night club or tales of NY being full of MC crews.
The simple transition of a haircut changed it all. The week after I went to school and all of my friends started to call me “Lupe” claiming that I resembled Lupe Fiasco. I didn’t even know who he was and after a week of people calling me him I decided to look him up and I instantly was amazed. I didn’t know being intellectual could create success in hip-hop. Before him there was only Underground and Mainstream no median.
The second hip-hop awaking came when I met Dre. He introduced me to some of my favorite artists including K-os, ATLien’s Outkast, Dead Prez, Talib Kwali, Mos Def, etc… so many MC’s that changed my perspective. He told me to freestyle everyday, purchase all of my music to stay humble, and he gave me what I needed to maintain my character and progress as an artist.

Currently: Attending college at Northeastern University pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Music Industry while working on projects on the side. Over the past 2 years alone I have released 2 mix-tapes “The Ocean State Great vol.1” and “The Old Soul,” 6 music videos, performed in over 50 shows, and an EP “The Quest For Equilibrium.” Currently, I’m interning/living in NY to get a taste of the music scene in a bigger city.
