"Kites are the band that bridge the gap between Joy Division and Donna Summer.
They exist in curious space between Manchester's Hacienda and New York's
Studio 54. And the sound? Intelligent synth laden melancholy reminiscent of
northern drizzle, thematically existentialist, drawing on isolation, longing and
score settling. But from broken British windows, the band are looking outward
towards escapist glamour, decadent style and unashamed androgynous beauty...

How it all began...

"A boy and a girl alight on the platform at Angel tube station.
Usually platforms on the London underground are squalid and claustrophobic.
Hundreds of commuters can occupy a single space that often resembles a
sweatier incarnation of the Terracotta Army. But at Angel the southbound
platform is different. It is spacious, aerate and inviting.
The boy and the girl did not pause to consider their surroundings. The
boy was too busy animatedly conveying ideas to his female companion. As
they glided up Angel’s central escalator, which I am told is the longest escalator
n Western Europe , his verbal meanderings began to crystallise. When they
finally emerged from the underground terminus, blinking into the English sunlight,
they had decided to embark on a voyage.
It is not yet known where they are headed."
