Bio

Spending most of his free time during his teens making electronic music in his bedroom Kjartan (Kjarr) developed a great talent for sculpting sound at a young age.
Things got serious when Kjartan formed Ampop in 1998 along with schoolmate and singer Biggi Hilmarsson. The duo soon produced two electronic pop/ambient albums, Nature is not a virgin (2000) and Made for Market (2002) both to critical acclaim.
On the third album, My delusions (2005) the sound had shifted from hazy synths and programmed beats to an altogether much more live sound with guitars, pianos and classic keyboards replacing the old computer based instrumentation. Also now drummer Jón G. Jóhannsson had joined the band. Success followed this development. Ampop won numerous music awards in Iceland and gigged around the globe, sharing stage with big acts such as KT Tunstall and The Zutons. In 2006 the band followed up My delusions with their last album to date, Sail to the Moon, seeking to broaden their fanbase the band spent much energy on shows overseas subsequently before going on hiatus in 2007.

Since then Kjartan has taken the role of keyboard player with Icelandic rockstars Leaves and written music for film, while working meticulously on Kjarr's eponymous debut album, out in Iceland in 2011.

Kjarr find’s Kjartan stepping into the front of his music, delivering vocals himself along with playing a multitude of instruments, creating a saturated, layered sound that has been described as psychedelic pop.

Though from Reykjavik, Kjarr is based in Glasgow and the band is now getting ready for live dates in 2012.
