Biography

Blair Hebert is a Vancouver based singer/songwriter acknowledged by both fans and peers as a solid performer, gifted singer songwriter, and accomplished guitarist. He currently is performing an original suite of songs he collectively calls the Sacred Work Ancient Earth Opus.

During his many years as a career musician, Blair has performed for thousands of people across Canada and the US. New opportunities are emerging in other parts of the world to perform and record, but mostly Blair appears close to home so he can be with his family and contribute to the culture of his city, Vancouver.

Since 1998, Blair has lead his entertaining five-piece jump/swing combo, The Swinging Detectives. He is currently developing an original interactive cabaret show featuring the Detectives and a cast of colorful 1950s characters. For private functions and in clubs he performs vintage jump blues swing tunes solo acoustic or with a band.

In 2006 Blair self-produced his first full-length CD, Know, drawing on songs he had performed for years as a solo acoustic artist. Know is getting a lot of attention from a grassroots audience and online through MySpace and other music sites. Using many of Vancouver’s finest musicians, Know is an acoustic groove-driven compilation with tangy B3 organ and Latin percussion--oh yes, and accordion too! Blair performs songs from the CD at intimate venues around Vancouver. If you’d like to know more, check out Blair’s MySpace page or visit his website, http://www.knowblair.com/

KNOW

Written By: Blair Hebert

Know
I’m a truck roaring down the freeway,
ignoring all the signs, blind to the beauty of the moment.
A passing blurry of vision, a rolling diesel cloud,
blind to the beauty of a woman.

Take the time to know your way she whispered.
Take the time to know, I said as I was leaving.
Now I rolling off the freeway I’m going to open up my eyes and take the time to know.

I don’t know if you can hear me
I’m calling you from deep inside.
As I sit here on a mountain of emotion.
I’m waiting on a vision to open up my eyes
and see the total beauty of this moment.

Deprived of all the comforts
we’ve come to know so well.
I let my senses battle and be broken.
You find losing is a victory,
stepping out of the illusion
straight into the total beauty of this moment.

Take the time to know your way she whispered.
Take the time to know, I said as I was leaving.
Now I rolling off the freeway, I’m going to open up my eyes and take the time to know.

There goes a truck roaring down the Freeway.
Down the fossil freeway.
I’m rollin off the freeway.
Right NOW is my free way.

Chimo! Eskimo Calypso

Written By: Blair Hebert

CHIMO Inujunga!
(eskimo calypso)

CHIMO!
No no no no., Inujunga, No no no no, Inujunga

Eskimo, Inujunga
Eskimo, Inujunga ha ha ha
Dara day ba ba rayeo. Dara day ba ba rayeo

Let me take your hand. Come take my hand.
I will lead you to a frozen land maybe then we will understand
about the ice and snow (repeat)
Late at night the cold wind blows better pray and never sleep alone.
No no no no.
No no no no
It’s too cold to take off your clothes
Learn the way of the Eskimo.

Beneath the northern lightsThe polar bear roam.
You can cut the ice and build a home
better pray and never sleep alone.
No no no no, You can visit if you want to,
No no no no, you are welcome anytime.
It’s too cold to take off your clothes
Learn the way of the Eskimo.

Day come and Day go
Day-ra day bop ba-rayeo
Injunga, Oog-gi-a-nak-took
Daylight come and we wanna go home

Now the nights are long
And the latest song is a childlike melody
With a message for you and me.
See the holy sky, how it melts the ice.
We live in fear, they live in fright as food swims out of sight.

No no no no, You can visit if you want to,
No no no no you are welcome anytime.
If it’s too cold to take off your clothes
Learn the way of the Eskimo.

Day come and Day go
Injunga, Oog-gi-a-nak-took
Day-ra day bop ba-rayeo
I am Inuit, My home has become unfamiliar to me
Day-ra day bop ba-rayeo
Come visit, you are welcome anytime Chimo

Dancing Margarita

Written By: Blair Hebert

Dancing Margarita

As a pilgrim on the highway
I was struck down by an arrow of love
and I fell like an angel into the darkness
of a dream like state of hell where I burned.
From a fever, I was awoken
by a vision of a lover dancing there.

She came as Margarita, a whirling Senorita.
Hey hey hey.

For seven years and seven months
I labored with a hopeful heart
while all my wages for loves investment
paid an ounce of pleasure for a pound of pain.
As I lay sleeping I was awoken
A spirit was moving and my lover was dancing there.

She came as Margarita
A whirling espíritu –a ah ah ah, Hey hey hey.

Her name is Margarita, a dancing Senorita.
Uni dama de dolce-vita, a tasty Margarita
A whirling Alma Libre, O bella Margarita, ah ah ah

Hey hey hey. Olé!

Radio Satellite

Radio Satellite

The clouds today turned your blue skies to grey
Got you feelin like you don’t know where you’re going to.
The evening news has given you the blues.
So you’ve dialed into a late night satellite radio show.

Now the winds of change are blowing around again and we don’t know where we’re going to. Maybe one day the blues will fade away; we’ll elect the lovers and rule the world.

I love to swing in a radio satellite, cruisin’ round, planet earth all night.
You swing and sway to the music that we play and track our shining orbit cross the clear night sky.

For the winds of change are blowing around again and we don’t know where we’re going to. Maybe one night we’ll rock this satellite, awake the lovers and rule the world.

Instrumental

Maybe tonight we’ll rock this satellite. Awake the lovers, and rule the world.

Maybe tonight we’ll rock this satellite. Awake the lovers, and rule the world.

Baby tonight lets rock this satellite. Hey! Awake you lovers, lets rule the world.

Raise Up Our Love

Written By: Blair Hebert

Raise up our Love

Welcome to my home tonight
You grace these halls with beauty
Let’s celebrate our hearts delight and fill these rooms with laughter.

Dance with me the fire’s burning low.
Let’s hold each other heart to heart and watch the embers glow.

Lay down our burdens and raise up our love
Lay down our bodies and raise up our love.

I see you with my eyes closed
A full moon with a halo
I feel you on my fingertips like the petals of an orchid.
whisper my name it fills my soul with sweetness
and melts away the strain deeply furrowed in my brow.

Lay down our burdens and raise up our love
Lay down our bodies and raise up our love.

Welcome to my home tonight
You grace these halls with beauty

I saw your true self today
You didn’t know I was looking
There you stood in joy and splendor
And it thrilled me to see you so.

I felt true love today,
Chased the shadows away.
Cleared the clutter of our space and time
Now I am yours and you are mine.

As love draws us close together
I whisper your name soft and low
You lay your head upon my shoulder
Whisper hold me love me true.

Instrumental

True blue is a color
True rule is a measure
True to self is your treasure
True love is both now and forever

I saw your true self today
You didn’t know I was looking
There you stood an earthly treasure
And it thrilled me to my soul.

There you stood my earthly treasure
And it thrilled me to my soul.
