"Ko-Jo Cue In New York Times"

Ghanaian rapper Ko-Jo Cue was on Monday mentioned in a New York Times publication as result of his brand connections with KFC, Ghana.

The rapper, who is currently swimming in a lot of attention together with BBnZ label mate Shaker over the release of their video for their first joint project titled ‘Pen & Paper’, is being tagged as one of Ghana’s major brand influencers.

He recently penned a deal with the popular American fast food restaurant chain, KFC, to lead its ‘Streetwise 2’ campaign in Ghana.

The campaign which was introduced months back is designed to appeal to a first generation of middle-class consumers looking for new experiences.

It aims at ‘hustlers and influencers’ who rose from the streets and climbed the social ladder.

“New ads debuted in May for the Streetwise 2 — two pieces of chicken, fries and a Coke — with the popular local singer Ko-Jo Cue holding a sign that says, “It’s thanks to the streets that I became a winner. I get a Streetwise 2,” it continues, “and fuel my ambition.”

And that was what the American best-selling newspaper talked about in its publication which also mentioned Ghanaian President Akufo-Addo over his concerns about the rise in fast food in Ghana and obesity. - Daily Guide

Bio

Ko-Jo Cue is an award-winning rapper/songwriter from Kumasi in the Ashanti region of Ghana. Growing up in a house filled with his entire extended family and sharing a sleeping mat with 5 cousins, an auntie and his grandmother, the values of family were instilled in him at an early age. These values are shared in most of his songs.

At age 9, he fell in love with Ghanaian rap music when his cousin introduced him
to Obrafour’s first album Pae Mu Ka. He wrote and memorized the lyrics to his
favourite songs. His love for the art form grew in Kumasi Anglican Secondary
School, which was noted for producing famous musicians like Okyeame Kwame, Lord
Kenya, Noble Nketiah and Oware Junior.

His professional career begun in 2010 when he started a series called Growing Pains
which was a slew of 5 mixtapes designed to introduce people to his music. He
had his first viral hit with ‘Head Nod’, a street anthem that quickly became a
mainstay on regional radio playlists. He released two critically acclaimed
mixtapes between 2011 and 2013 which positioned him as the next big thing on
the Ghanaian rap scene. In April 2014, his single Corolla Music went viral and
sparked a nationwide conversation about local hip-hop on radio. The success of
the song caught the attention of BBnZ Live who signed him two months later. The
Shining, his first project on BBnZ Live, turned out to be more than a mixtape
and earned him his first radio hit with its single Low Key. It was downloaded
more than 12000 times and earned critical praise from pundits, peers and fans.

Between 2015 and 2016, he released several singles which made him a radio darling and a household name. Notable amongst them are Lavender with E.L, Tsioo Benke Mi with International Songwriting Competition winner A.I and My BayBey with Afrobeats
superstar Mr. Eazi. He also headlined and sold out his first ever concert which
he dubbed CUE for President in an effort to promote the participation of the
youth in the Ghanaian electoral process. MTV Base placed him at No. 9 on their 2016
Hottest Emcees in Africa list.

In 2017, he secured his first endorsement deal with international brand KFC and became the streetwise ambassador for Ghana. He partnered with his label mate Shaker to release a joint album called Pen & Paper. The album which was noted for its creative videos won him his first award at the 4syte MVAs and earned him multiple nominations at the Ghana Music Awards. The partnership went on to produce hit songs like Mama Yie, Up & Awake with BET Nominee Kwesi Arthur and Things We Do 4 Love with highlife sensation KiDi and 2 time BET Best African Act Sarkodie.
