Biography

Introducing KOA SIU, a dynamic artist and songwriter from Hawaii.

It’s not every day that you see a Hawaiian boy playing solid rock songs and singing mainstream-style ballads-- but then, KOA’s not your every-day musician. The son of Hawaii’s most innovative recording duo (Leon and Malia) Koa’s taking the music in his roots to an uncharted level. Although KOA is an accomplished guitarist and drummer, it’s his crystal-clear vocals that stand out the most. KOA’s voice cuts through the forest of competing sound to touch the listener deeply, right Where You Are.

KOA was born and raised in Hawaii— graduated from Aiea High School, attended Hillsdale College in Michigan, and then graduated from Pacific Rim Bible College in Honolulu. In 1998, KOA began to define his own musical style with the release of Thirsty Life. From 1999-2008 KOA could be found in Waikiki’s most prestigious hotels as a solo act, or singing Hawaiian music with his dad Leon.

As part of New Hope Christian Fellowship with Pastor Wayne Cordeiro, KOA served as the Worship Pastor at New Hope Hawaii Kai Church from 2003-2007. In April of 2007 KOA released his long-awaited second album Where You Are which earned a 2008 Hoku Award nomination for “Rock Album Of The Year”. In October 2007 Koa released a Christian worship-music album entitled, I Am Yours—A Worship Experience with KOA. On his recent Hawaiian islands tour, KOA visited 17 churches on 3 islands to bring his special brand of worship to over 17,000 people. I Am Yours also received a 2008 Hoku Award nomination for “Religious Album of the Year”.

In January of 2008, the Siu family re-located to Sydney, Australia to become part of Hillsong Church and attend Hillsong Leadership College.

KOA is joyfully married to his wife Sarah and has two wonderful children, Kekoa (3), Kalea (1). For more family info, please visit: www.koaandsarah.com.

KOA’s wife Sarah Siu is also a graduate of Pacific Rim Bible College and has just published her first book: Run To You—a guide through miscarriage. KOA’s song, Great Day in Heaven, speaks specifically about Koa & Sarah’s first miscarried child and is currently being offered as a free download in conjunction with the book - visit www.runtoyou.org.

Koa & Sarah have also recently launched a new website to help moms who are feeling depressed, down, or otherwise "blue"--especially on mother's day: BlueMothersDay.org

Tears of a Mother

Written By: Koa Siu

The Tears of a Mother
by Koa Siu
Inspired by Sarah Siu, and a powerful message preached by Reggie Dabbs

Like a gentle rain, running down her face
Full of a love that touches eternity
Often in pain, they carry the taste
Of treasured hopes and dreams

So many shed alone, a passion for a home
Full of the grace that brings out the best in me
No matter where I go, should I stand or fall
She’s crying to see my life succeed

Every drop that falls is captured in the ocean of His care

The tears of a mother touch the heart of Jesus like no other
Moved with compassion, it’s where miracles begin
Full of His comfort, and His power that can even raise the dead
Tears of a Mother--- Love that never ends

Thought that no one knew, what you were walking through
Feeling the weight of the world crushing down on you
Can you hear His voice--- "even though you walk through the shadow
I am with you--- I will carry you
I am with you--- I will carry you"

Hope Will Find A Way

Hope Will Find A Way
by Koa Siu

VERSE 1:
I can see a glimpse of Your goodness in the beauty of the wide open sea
I can see a ray of Your mercy, liquid light cascading through the clouds to me
Everywhere I go I’m followed by this rainbow full of colors that brightly
Speak your love for me and I can almost reach out and touch it

Pre-Chorus:
I can almost see Your face
and I can almost see this world full of grace like it was meant to be

CHORUS:
Goodness and mercy and peace flowing through the land
From the heights of the mountains to the depths of the heart of the sea
Troubles like clouds blown away
If I could only capture this vision today
And sing it like healing to every broken heart
I know that hope—will find a way!

VERSE 2:
I can feel the rain, its fallin’, like whispers from heaven to me
Carried by the wind, its callin’, its coming to set my soul free
Everywhere I go I’m followed by this rainbow full of colors that brightly
Speak your love for me and I can almost reach out and touch it

BRIDGE:
In the moonlight I lie back, lost in the endless stars
They are timeless in their beauty, reminds me of who You are, of who You are
Of who You are—

I Thrive

Written By: Koa Siu

I Thrive
by Koa Siu
VERSE:

You’re all I want,
You’re all I need
But sometimes life
makes me empty
I cry for you,
I won’t hold back
I’m longing for
the life I lack

It’s not enough to just hold on
Or day by day ‘get by’

CHORUS:

I thrive on Your love, I survive by Your grace
The punishment that I deserved you carried in my place
I thrive on Your love, I survive by Your grace
The life I lived against Your truth is gone—
Without a trace

God, If You're Real

Written By: Koa Siu

God, If You’re Real
by Koa Siu

It all comes down to this
I’m not as high and mighty as I seem
It all comes down to this
I’m powerless to reach out and seize my dreams

On my own
On my own

It all comes down to this
‘seems my life is changing unpredictably
It all comes down to this
Everything I try to fill my life leaves me cold and empty

I cry out in the middle of the night, longing for an answer
Just to come, and bring a little light
I cry out for some freedom for my soul
Cause something deep inside is longing to be whole

God, if You’re real, please answer
Cause I don’t want to live here on my own
God, if You’re real, please answer
Cause I know I can’t make it, I know I can’t make it

On my own
On my own

It all comes down to this
Guess I’m longing for a savior deep inside
It all comes down to this
If it might be true, then I need you, to tear away my pride

Inside Out (song for 9-11)

Written By: Koa Siu

Inside Out

VERSE 1:
My whole world came crashing down today
I guess yours did too
My head is spinnin’ try’n to understand the way this could be
And though I may be miles and miles apart
Still I feel the weight
Voices crush down on my weary heart telling about their fate

PRE-CHORUS:
What used to matter for dollars and cents, now broken and rent
At the foot of those who’ve fallen
And the man on the TV,
and the voice on the radio
Say there is no doubt,

CHORUS:
The world’s turning inside-out World’s turning inside-out
World’s turning inside-out World’s turning inside-out

VERSE 2:
Now I’m aching to be with the ones I love
Now I know what’s important to me
Later longing just to run and be alone
To cry with my grief

BRIDGE:
And the people crying, saying,
“Where was the Almighty in the middle of this tragedy?”
And His tear-filled eyes say yes— He’s right there
As He comforts hearts again, will you let Him in?

PRE-CHOURS 2:
And the man on the TV,
and the voice on the radio
Says I’m all out of time and all out of excuses
And the man on the inside, and the voice of my heart says
I’m making the choice—no doubt!

CHORUS 2:
I’m turning inside-out
I’m turning inside-out
I’m turning inside-out
Turn me inside-out

ENDING:
My whole world came crashing down today…
I guess yours did too

Adam & Eve (Wedding Song)

Written By: Koa Siu

Adam & Eve (Wedding Song)

I am thirsting for you like a desert for rain
Like a man locked up in darkness longing for the day
I am starving for you like a man lost at sea
And like no one else could ever do, you complete me

As there will never be another time or place like this
Sure as no two people are the same
As it was in the beginning when the first two hearts were weaved
I am your Adam, you are my Eve

Long before I had found you, when you were only a dream
Though I know I wished and hoped and prayed, I don’t think that I believed
But then the God of true love brought you and the miracle that day
Was the seed that grew into our love and I’ll forever be amazed!

Great Day In Heaven

Written By: Koa Siu

Great Day in Heaven

VERSE 1:
I have never seen you, but I know your name
The joy and expectancy of waiting for your time made my heart overflow
For you I cried, and happiness filled my eyes when I heard that you were coming
With you my heart died, or came about as close as I could get knowing You were gone

Pre-chorus 1:
And I don’t think I will ever understand why you were taken away so soon
But I’ll find my peace in the hope of the day

Chorus 1:
When I hear my name behind me, turn around to see
And not too far away a man is walking up to me
Though I’ve never seen his face, I have loved him all his life
It’ll be a great day in heaven, when I see my son for the first time

Verse 2:
I wonder what you’ll tell me, I wonder what I’ll say, standing face to face
I’ll be new to heaven so I guess you’ll show me the way
All around where you’ve been living always

Pre-chours 2:
Maybe then I will start to understand why you were taken away so soon
And I’ll find my peace in the hope of the day

Chorus 2:
When I’ll hear my name behind me, turn around to see
And not too far away you’re there walking up to me
Though I’ve never seen your face, I have loved you all your life
It’ll be a great day in heaven, when I see you son for the first time

Bridge:
And everything will be brand new, and I can look back with satisfaction
At all the things He’s brought me through
And there will be peace, and there will be love, and there will be
freedom and hope and joy—
and there will be you!—
Oh you…

Chorus 3:
And we’ll hear my name behind me, we’ll turn around to see
And you will introduce me to the man who’s walking up to me
Though I’ve never seen His face, He has loved me all my life
It’ll be a great day in heaven,
when I see my savior,
And I meet my son for the first time
for the first time

There Is None Deeper

There is None Deeper
by Koa Siu / Firestarter Records, © 2007, BMI

CHORUS:
There is none deeper, there is none stronger
There is none higher, there is none greater
None can compare with You, Jesus Christ our King

There is none deeper, there is none stronger
There is none higher, there is none greater
None can compare with You, Forever we will sing— of Your glory

VERSE 1:
At Your word light burst fourth through the darkness
At Your word life sprang fourth on the earth
At Your word the seas are parted, and the blind can see
At Your word the dead are raised, Your word that lives in me

VERSE 2:
With Your hands You stretched out the farthest heavens
With Your hands You made man from the clay
With Your hands You carved the mountains, and flung the stars in space
With Your hands You bought my pardon, and suffered in my place

BRIDGE:
You were there in the beginning, it’s through You everything was made
You are light and life eternal, through the dark You are the way

You became a man just like us, that our eyes might see Your face
And now we behold Your glory, full of truth full of and grace
