Reggae music is fast evolving into pop culture as a force to be reckoned with. Reggae songs are topping charts from dancehall to pop music on the billboard hot 100 charts. With that said it is my pleasure to announce a hot new group named Koalishan. The name Koalishan means combination, alliance, unity etc.This group consists of two unique sounding vocalists, Maad Indian, the singer and Nex Lev, the deejay. (Jamaican MCs are called Deejays). Here is a little background on each artist in the group.
The year is 2006 and the reggae music industry is rising thriving with new artists. One voice could be distinguished from the rest, that voice belongs to Maad Indian. By 2007 he was recording with some of the top reggae artists singing hooks and opening shows. In March 2008 he appeared on stage at the infamous Albany Manor making a cameo appearance. Two months later he again appeared on stage at the C-Pac Night Club opening the show with other top artists. Recording over 75 songs in just a short time, in addition to getting major airplay on some of the leading radio stations he still remains humble claiming that “the work has only just begun”. Now in 2009 this talented vocalist has teamed up with Nex Lev to form the group Koalishan. Writing, recording, and performing, these two artists are definitely making great music. Nex is a prolific songwriter with both natural vocal talent and a mastered skill set in the art of writing. He is a poet and a philosopher who happens to love music and performing. Nex grew up with and around music in Jamaica’s dancehall capitals, Water House, Seaview Gardens and Spanish Town. He has been writing and reciting deejay songs since the age of 7 performing since Junior High. Nex started his music career in 2006 by building a recording studio in Brooklyn NY called Studio 100. He worked with many artists from different genres such as hip hop, reggae, dancehall, rock and roll and pop. In 2008 Nex began promoting his own music at talent shows such as Reggae Rising Stars and Irie Reggae Jam. The response was very positive for the type of music Nex was promoting. “Your music is powerful” (Ken Williams). “You are a great talent”(Ed Robinson). Nex is presently working with Maad Indian on the Koalishan project. The new super reggae group, Koalishan , is on track to be one of the top International groups in 2010.
With their currently promoted single “Answer Jah” and several more roots reggae classics, Koalishan plans to revitalize the roots reggae market. The music is truly inspirational and you can hear the perfection that this group strives for in each arrangement. Koalishan maintains a positive message even in their up tempo records.
Records like “Designated driver” has a vibrant dance beat pulsating through the track yet the lyrics are so prolific that you have to listen to every word while dancing until you sweat. Koalishan is currently promoting “Answer Jah” and putting together a classic album set for 2010 release date. Their music can be found online at all major social and mp3 download sites.
