"CJXF Radio"

Since releasing their first CD “At Anywhere” Independent recording artists “koan” have done it again with their second unstoppable CD “Pushing Back at the Sun”. With the expertise of Canada’s most experienced and successful engineer/producers Nick Blagona and local engineer/producer and studio owner Phil Anderson, CJXF Community Radio believes “KOAN” fans will be more than happy when they hear the final product. Tunes like ‘Open Wide’, ‘Pilot’, ‘Deceiver’ and the title track ‘Pushing Back at the Sun’ should lead the group known as “KOAN” to a major record deal. Congratulations to the members of KOAN for a competitive edge in helping Edmonton rock bands move to a new level.

Bio

Koan is an independent Canadian Band based out of the city of Edmonton where Vocalist Ross Crockett, Guitarist Jeff Mclellan, Bass Player Shawn Berke and Drummer Francis Mella live, work, play, dream, love and make music.

Koan was formed in 1998 much like any other band. Four guys with diverse musical backgrounds coming together somewhat by purpose but mostly by chance or fate or whatever you want to call it……..Hmmm we are Koan so lets call it Karma!

The result is a group of guys that have produced two CD’s over the past two years. Their first CD titled “At Anywhere” a self recorded and produced full length CD has done well on a local level and opened the doors to their second CD titled “Pushing Back at the Sun” a 10 song CD produced by respected and successful Canadian producer Nick Blagona. The outcome of this partnership is a sound difficult to categorize with one critic saying, “there is something familiar here yet still fresh and new.” Koan’s Bass player Shawn, half jokingly, describes the sound as “Southern Influenced Arctic Rock”

Ross Crockett’s lyrics deal with the struggles of the “inner self”. His strong and powerful voice draws you into a space where almost everyone has been at one time or another.

The Bands live show has been defined as powerful, tight and understated. Their goal? To be successful enough to make music for a living……….that, would be good Karma.
