Bio
Kodjo Senyo is a singer born in Lome, Togo, whose vitality brings us to the heart of contemporary Africa. A self-taught musician, Kodjo Senyo grew up in a family and an environment immersed in the traditional singing of the Ewe. For this people in southern Togo, songs are everyday and omnipresent; everything is music.
For Kodjo Senyo music is universal. Like a round trip voyage, he feels the music that was torn out of Africa centuries ago – and which evolved into different black and Afro-American genres in the meantime - has returned to its original land, influencing many musicians on the continent. This is the starting point for Kodjo Senyo’s songs: bridging the music of the Diaspora with today’s African sounds.
Living today in Spain, Senyo presents his CD Agoo, a self-edited album released in November 2007. His vital and emotionally charged voice stands out especially in the urban songs where he sings of friendship, love and hope, the basis of his ancestral beliefs. Accompanied by his guitar and supported by a solid band, he presents a fusion of jazz, soul and African blues sung in his mother tongue.
