Bio
Kody Gyle is a singer songwriter from Toronto, Canada. The conscious lyrics and unforgettable melodies that make up Gyle’s collection of songs are a testament to the art of song writing. Formal training at Royal St. Georges College, and an adolescence full of musical ventures that spanned hip hop to garage rock flung Gyle into adulthood. In his early twenties Gyle fronted some of Toronto’s more popular bands recording two CDs and performing at the most prestigious clubs in the city (Phoenix Concert Theatre, Lee’s Palace, The Horseshoe Tavern, Revival).
In the summer of 2004 Kody accepted an offer to work overseas. It was there, in a small town in Italy that Gyle began to etch out his signature style. Under a year later Gyle returned to Toronto with a suitcase of lyrics and his guitar. Soon after, Kody hooked up with Toronto Producer-Arranger-Composer Mick Peace. Peace has worked with producer/drummer Sly Dunbar (Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Madonna, Grace Jones), as well as hundreds of Jamaica’s top artists.
Gyle and Peace worked hard for a year arranging and recording an array of songs. The resulting sound evokes ideas of Lennon, Dylan and Marley, while achieving individuality through topical lyrics and Kody’s unique voice. The material received such a positive response that the “Just a Glimpse” CD was released. The disc contains songs from the forthcoming full-length CD, due in summer 2007. Just a Glimpse gives the listener a sneak peak at Gyle’s powerful and well crafted songs.
