Bio

Kohai formed in mid-2003 as an acoustic duo, and quickly grew to incorporate a rhythm section for a larger sound. Personnel changes in early 2004 landed the band with a solid, experienced set of musicians. The band's sound is collaborative effort of four intelligent, thoughtful individuals who are all committed to making the absolute best music. Kohai released their debut album, "What We Are Waiting For", in 2005 to lavish reviews.

The drums are groove-oriented with forays into pounding tribal rhythms, the bass is melodic and fluid. A swirling mixture of guitars and synth sets the stage for melodic vocals and just-thick-enough harmonies.

George Eninger : Guitarist

George Eninger started playing electric guitar in 1992, when he was given a 1978 Guild electric s300d by a very good friend of his. “Learn how to play this, were starting a band….”

He quickly grew into the melodic laid back guitarist that he is today. With the use of tasteful effects, a guitar synthesizer and a “less is more attitude” George brings a ghostly ethereal feel to Kohai. George currently lives in Cincinnati OH.

Mark Szabo : Drummer

Mark started beating on various objects at a young age - perhaps even before birth - but started drumming with others at hippie get-togethers in the early 90s, playing congas and djembes, and eventually graduated from bonfire drum circles to bands. Known for his powerful beats, and ability to shift gears from heavy pounding to subtle murmurs from the drums, Mark also sings with the band, and recorded the quartet's debut release.

Shaun Henry : Vocals, Guitars

Music is the passion that drives and inspires the life of Shaun Henry. A born singer and a practiced guitar player, he is a complex muisican with a drive to learn and create the art that he has grown to love. Shaun is the primary songwriter for Kohai. His thoughtful, heartfelt lyrics blend with technichal rhythmic guitar schemes that provide insight into his life.

Jake Evans: Bass

Jake started his musical journey ate the age of thirteen. The guitar was the first to get his attention and he began an unconventional study of music, picking up other instruments soon after (bass guitar, banjo, violin, and percussion). "It doesn't matter to me so much what instrument I'm playing....I just love being a part of the music." Jake feels that music is a portrayal of all senses and emotions seeing all of his surroundings, experiences and emotions as unique impressions on his musical mind. "There is always music all around us and in our lives...anything can be an instrument, anything can be a song...as we all are."
