Kontraband (Perth, Australia)

WA band by the name of Kontraband have released some superb high energy blues. Originally featured with not one but two tracks on Downunder Blues and Roots Vol.6 and on the final Bar Closed Vol.7..all outstanding songs like B.I.T.C.H, Monkey On My Back and Mr Brown - should herald folk to stand up and listen to their original songs of powerful blues. Keep it coming Kontraband look forward to a future tour very soon on the East Coast so the West don't have it all to themselves. - Colin

I then contacted Jillian Jake and we exchanged some emails for nearly a year before we finally happened to meet during one of my professional trips to Australia. It was pure coincidence, but Kontraband were playing at the Mojo’s in Fremantle while I was staying in Perth !
I was lucky enough to see them play live and they confirmed all the positive feelings I had about the band. Great original songs, skilled and ‘groovy’ musicians, but most of all, wonderful human beings. After that night, I can tell you that if they make it to Europe one day, they will come and play at our festival !

KONTRABAND Monkey On My Back myspace.com/kontrabandblues (EP) ‘Bitch’ is lyrically your typical Blues-rock fare, but chugs along nicely with the harmonica at its centre, and the title track has a nice sound to it, with some excellent earthy guitar playing. There’s some enjoyable music on this short collection from this middle-aged Australian outfit.

Just recieved the new Vol 6,thanks heaps mate. Some great stuff on here,a few tracks that are not Bluesy enough for me,but in saying that, there are a swag that I really like.Stand outs in "Fav" order are:7-11-12-15-8-1-6.
