Bio

Kooma Zoo is a Danish-Finnish rock band playing contemporary melodic punk rock. The idea of a new band started during summer 2006 by Ralph the Rat and Dr. Mortimer Doom who after several weeks of musical experimentation composed a couple of very inspiring songs. The best musicians suitable for this rather new and revolutionizing punk-rock style were gathered, and so the two guitar
players were joined by Viking Beat Machine (drums), The Claw (bass) and Mr. Bob (keys). Kooma Zoo was formed and the birth of a new rock genre was a fact.

Rehearsals started in September 2006 and the first arrangements were sketched. An extensive period of composing and experimentation followed and a full concert show was ready by the end of the year. In February 2007 it was time to test the concept in practise. Mr. Bob and Dr. Mortimer travelled again to Denmark with a carload of instruments and other things necessary for surviving the following weeks. The show was fine tuned and a studio session was held in order to make the first demo recordings. Gigging started and the series culminated in a high-energy show at Musikcafeen (Huset) in Copenhagen. The audience was totally blown away, both by the total musical experience as well as the high energy in the atmosphere. All feedback was overwhelmingly encouraging and this showed the Kooma Zoo concept was a winner.

The musical style can be characterised as energetic melodic punk rock with a twist. Radio friendly quality is built into explosive hit songs like “Deserve” and “Russian Lullaby” while more emotional subjects are treated in “The Box” among others. New sounds and spices are often involved, adding on top more unconventional punk-instruments, such as moogs, rubberbass, mandolin, theremin and ethnic style drums to name a few. The arrangements are interesting and the very dynamic and energetic live show is put together so that the audience can enjoy the full set as a whole.

“You can give me too little, you can give me too much but don't you ever give me what I deserve...” Yes, that's about it until you hear more and see the entire Kooma Zoo setup. Keep on punking!!!
