"Kopecky Family Band"

"The Disaster‘ is one of the standout albums of the year 2010: a breath of fresh air from start to finish. This 7-piece from Nashville, TN combine backgrounds in classical, folk, and rock music to create a truly great sound. I’ve been listening to ‘God & Me’ over and over and over!"

"Kopecky Family Band"

The perfect soundtrack to life in general. The Kopecky Family Band consists of seven band members all residing in Nashville, Tennessee. On their newest album, The Disaster, they create a whimsical rock feel with their song "Birds" and sexy vocals in "Red Devil." This album was produced, engineered, and mixed by Partners in Crime(Chris Grainger and Russ Long.) The bands knowledge and talent of instruments create a unique melody with a violin, cello, sleigh bells, and a xylophone. Their honest lyrics relate-able to society, especially in the song "Disaster", make them a band for anyone and everyone.

"Kopeck Family Band"

If Donny and Marie were a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll, Kelsey and Gabe Kopecky are a little bit Baroque and a little bit indie rock. These siblings' harmonies are at the heart of The Kopecky Family Band who will play The Rudyard Kipling this Thursday August 19th.
The Nashville-based Kopecky Family Band is touring in support of their EPThe Disaster, a seven-song release that comfortably meshes classical music sensibilities with a nod to bands like Stars and The Most Serene Republic . Paste Magazine has described them as a new wave Arcade Fire. Not bad, but the sound is more like a love triangle between Colin Meloy, Leslie Fiest, and Roy Wood.
This classically trained family whose sound includes strings and brass instrumentation writes focused songs that are not lost in the intricacy of the arrangements. But the Kopecky clan's sound is anything but busy. The instrumentation and production are clear and melodic. A homemade video of them performing the EP's opener God & Me on the corner of Bardstown Road and Eastern Parkway in Louisville is testament to the fresh sound the band has even in a stripped down environment.
The seven piece band - yes they are really a family - performed at this year's SXSW Festival and will perform during Next Big Nashville music conference in September. So catch them at the Rud before they start playing the bigger venues. - Kevin Seledmeir

"The Kopecky Family Band"

The Kopecky Family Band, who hail from Nashville, are described as a “neo-classical indie band.” I always hesitate to apply the label of “indie” to any band because I find that it is far too broad a term, but despite that, this band definitely does have an “indie” sort of feel to them. The “neo-classical” label is also apt, as their songs are skillfully written and executed. Their music utilizes an interesting variety of instruments (including many string instruments and the occasional horn), and these variations provide for a diverse and entertaining listening experience.

Another reason I hesitate to use the “indie” label is because it often suggests inaccessibility or an overly eclectic sound. However, this is not the case with the Kopecky Family Band. While some of their songs do lean more toward an “indie” sound, their music is overall catchy and memorable. This is proven by the success of their single “Lucky.” I personally enjoyed “Trainwreck,” with its catchy chorus and confident beat, and “God & Me,” which showcases the band’s musical skill by interweaving a graceful horn part among the guitars and drums. I would recommend the Kopecky Family Band to anyone looking for a band with a softer sound and noticeable musical talent. - Kate Rands, KSLU

Bio

Like all families, Kopecky Family Band beats with the same heart and writes in the same blood. ‘The Family’ began creating music together in Nashville, Tennessee in the Fall of 2007. What began as late night talks about life and dreams gradually flowed into eccentric and beautiful music that has led to numerous tours, including adventures to CMJ, SXSW and Bonnaroo, three EP releases and friendships across the country.

Meet the Kopecky Family Band from Nashville

Leading the family are singers Gabe and Kelsey, along with Steven (lead guitar), Corey (bass), Markus (cello), and David (drums). The music is emotive, and evokes raw honesty and vulnerability, whilst capturing your attention through its unmistakable power and presence. The sounds created by the booming and orchestral-like 6-piece challenge the listener’s ear while still offering sweet melodies to sing along with.

The family has a time-line with oodles of notable events including their 2008 CD release party for the Embraces EP. The party was the talk of the town with its theatrical décor, black tie dress code, and opening act of a string quartet. Excitement continued into the fall of ’09 when the Kopecky Family’s performance took the Next Big Nashville Music Festival by surprise.

In the spring of 2010, it was time for the family to pack into their 15-passenger van (which was lovingly called “The War Wagon”) and head to Austin, TX for their showcase at SXSW as one of ASCAP’s notable bands to watch. A follow up performance at Next Big Nashville in 2010 had A & R reps scurrying to put their Blackberrys away and listen. When in the studio with Partners in Crime, Russ Long and Chris Grainger (Wilco, Sixpence None the Richer), the Kopecky clan produced The Disaster EP which was released in August 2010.

The Kopeckys followed up SXSW with a mammoth CMJ 2010, where they won over NPR‘s own Bob Boilen and were invited to play at the official Paste Magazine showcase before becoming the darlings of ‘Store-Cute’ and online retailer, Fred Flare.

Straight back into the studio after CMJ, the band produced the follow up to The Disaster, the perfect compliment entitled Of Epic Proportions. The EP is comprised of digital B-Sides & rarities, featuring crowd favorite “Howlin’ at the Moon“, and a remix of “God & Me” that explores the band’s varied and broad scope to produce amazing and diverse sounds.

Since then, the band released a limited edition split 7? vinyl with Seattle friends Ivan & Alyosha, and returned to Austin yet again for SXSW. The band played the infamous Paste Magazine showcase, Schubas Day Party, Next Big Nashville and performed for Austin’s KUT during the festival. The band attended Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival for the first time as performers in 2011, as well as returning to CMJ in New York playing shows for Baeble Music and Paste Magazine.

And to cap off a stellar 2011, Kopecky Family Band were voted one of the Top 20 New Acts and one of the Top 50 Live Acts of 2011 by long-time supporters, Paste Magazine. The accolades kept rolling in, this time with Amazon deeming 'Animal' one of the Top 100 Songs of 2011. The band started 2012 off with a bang by premiering their first Daytrotter Session in January.

The band is set to release their debut full length album this Summer, amid more touring across the country visiting new and old fans.
