The best kept secret in music

"Columbus heralds Ohio Northern band"

Don't worry, this isn't about a reunion tour unless the Spice Girls is the group in question.

The new kids are actually a new local band called Korephase, which assembled in 2006. Two of the four members, Tarry Summers, 21; and Kyle Melin, 22, are Columbus natives. The other two members, Glenn Stanton, 22; and Nathaniel Richardson, 22, hail from Troy, Ohio.

The four men are Ohio Northern University students. Summers met Stanton during football camp freshman year, where they quickly bonded from their love of making music.

"After hearing a song Glenn had written on his guitar, I knew we would eventually start a band," Summers said. After they pulled in two other friends, Korephase became a reality.

The group is quite new to the music scene; the four have only been playing together since last August when they finally added Richardson to their lineup, making them only a year old.

This would never be apparent, however, based solely on their performance. The group is a fresh take on mainstream rock with influences such as Audioslave, Daughtry, and Metallica. Summers describes Korephase as being different from any other band out there. But what's more is the group sounds as though they've been playing together for much longer than one year.

Instead of seeing it as a way to gain fame and fortune, the group greatly appreciates the beauty of making music.

"The best part of performing is losing ourselves in our songs and seeing other people identify with the lyrics that we've written," Summers said. "It's awesome."

The group members do hope to one day make it big doing what they love and sharing their music with an even bigger audience. Their goal, regardless of what happens, is to continue writing and performing music.

"We hope that some record company hears us and gives us a deal, so we can quit our day jobs someday," Summers jokes.

Overall, the group is a wonderful new addition to the local rock scene. With two Columbus natives in the band, Columbus performances are almost guaranteed. Otherwise, the band can be found playing and entertaining students around Ohio Northern's campus.

Bio

Not many bands can say they met playing college football. Middle linebacker Glenn Stanton & fullback Tarry Summers collided off the field, they realized their potential as a band. After pulling 2 close friends in on the deal they realized not only were they writing catchy tunes, but lyrically their songs were incredibally deep, powerful, and motivating. Some comparisons in the original music can range anywhere from Audioslave to Three Days Grace to Godsmack. Even with these comparisons no one can deny that Korephase has their very own sound. They have a sound that is appealing to the masses, but still rocks as hard as it gets.
