Bio

.Kota (ko-ta) (n.): Dynamic, distinctive rock trio primed to entertain Seattle area music enthusiasts.

.Kota is the prog-rock brainchild of Seattle musicians Nathan Widener (vocals/guitar), Cory Boisoneau
(bass), and Justin Williams (drums). Widener has been alternately active and passive in the Northwest
music scene for over 15 years. His inimitable ear for melody has equipped former projects such as
Seventythree and Poleshift Trigger with instantly-recognizable hooks, unabashed artistic intensity, and
a compelling sense of energy. Boisoneau’s musical career began at age 14. After hearing Primus’ “Sailing
the Seas of Cheese” album, he promptly requested a bass for his birthday and began to teach himself
how to play. He later attended Washington State University, at which he took formal bass lessons and
minored in Jazz Studies. Boisoneau sharpened his performance skills in various local jazz and funk bands before moving to Seattle in 2006. Williams explored the Alma College music department at age five and quickly decided that the drums were his favorite instrument. He was gifted his first drum kit shortly thereafter, and eventually joined the band Local Drag at age 12. He proceeded to play throughout Michigan, further showcasing his talents in several bands, including Spiras Infinitas. Williams briefly moved to London, where he became a session player, before making his way to Seattle.

These three separate musical paths eventually crossed, leading to the formation of Dossier in 2006.
Dossier wrote and recorded a great deal, but only played a single show (at the Showbox at the Market)
before splitting up. Despite the band’s demise and Williams’ departure to the Midwest, Widener and
Boisoneau continued to write and play music together. The trio reconnected upon Williams’ return to Seattle, and .Kota was born. Characterized by rich tones, melodic vocals, and an avant-garde rhythm
section, .Kota’s music possesses a rare combination of edge and accessibility.
