BandPopAdult Contemporary

Our music is best described as soft rock/AC/pop with a definite melodic string and keyboard presence. Each song has lyrics that tell a story. We believe that most people don't devote enough time to evolve themselves to where they should be...content and help others to achieve this.

Biography

KOTADAMA

Are

Chris Brown - lead vocalist and guitarist

Evan Brown - drums

Clint Fish – keyboards, Guitar and backing vocals

Kane Burns - bass guitar

Brothers, Chris Brown (lead vocalist and guitarist) and Evan Brown (drums) have done things that most young men of their age rarely dream of. They travelled the world as competitive ballroom dancers as well as dabbling in the Stock Market trading. But not long ago they decided to begin another creative venture. One with its own kind of beauty equalling moves of their dancing days - and it is one that is likely to net them more than the Dow Jones or NASDAQ might ever yield. In 2007 the pair formed Kotadama and began writing their own songs and recorded their first album. The band is an inventive group of people and with their debut album have already become the fresh musical faces of pop radio.

Clint Fish (keys, synth, second guitar and backup vocals) met Chris and Evan about 18 years ago and when Chris and Evan started songwriting he joined them for their first album. As well as playing with Kotadama, he is also a cabinet maker, computer nerd and pro gambler and has a photogrammetry business. But he has found none of those as fulfilling as singing and playing in the band.

Kane Burns (bass),  from the Central Coast, started playing guitar when he was 13 but then realized bass was better so switched over a year later and has played ever since. He studied music at Newcastle University majoring in bass. He met Evan, Chris & Clint a few years ago and loves the feel of the band and positive attitude that Kotadama has and is looking forward to touring the world with them.

Like so many great bands Kotadama (Japanese for “spirit of words”) arose out of their wish to record and perform the songs they’d written.

“Around the time I was studying for my university entrance exams I started bugging my parents for a guitar, and then I learned how to play,” says Chris, who with Evan and their two sisters grew up on their family’s 100-acre rural property in New South Wales, Australia. “I talked Evan into learning to play the drums, and we started working out U2 songs and other covers. We started writing our own stuff pretty soon after that.” Before long, the siblings had converted a nearby farm shed into their own recording studio and were hard at work crafting the songs on Dichotomy.

And what songs they are; sweeping, high-gloss epics that truly belie their composers’ youth with the uplifting and melodic tunes. They reflect their obsession with age-old, universal themes: the relentless ache of unrequited love; a young man’s attempts to make sense of the world; that intoxicating, tingling rush of a first kiss. There’s “As I Am,” a driving, lay-it-on-the-line statement of self-belief with massive hooks and keyboards that sparkle like distant stars; and “Earth vs. Man,” an atmospheric, introspective think-piece that Chris describes as “a bit of a warning to mankind.” And then there’s “See You Tonight,” their first single. A yearning ode of romantic separation with a soaring, heartbreaking vocal by Chris, the track was picked up by CNY KISS FM and quickly became the station’s most requested song, going to No.1 for 8 weeks!

Things have been happening quickly for the band! On invitation, Kotadama has toured have toured India, New Zealand, Japan and appeared at the Kansai Music Conference in Osaka, Japan; was nominated for a Los Angeles Music Award; saw the video for “See You Tonight” air on CBS, NBC, FOX, and other American TV networks; played an acoustic showcase in the UK; won first place in the international Festival4stars songwriting competition; and received invitations to perform at the Barcelona Acció Musical festival in Spain and in Canada and the US! The list goes on!

Following this success the band partnered with, multi-platinum records producer, David Kershenbaum (Duran Duran, Tracy Chapman, Bryan Adams and many more). He said about Kotadama - “Every decade or so there is a musical group that comes on the scene that takes your breath away,” raves Kershenbaum. “Kotadama is that kind of group.”

The list of achievements for Kotadama in the past few years is long and vast! Currently, Kotadama has numerous songs ready for their next album and are looking to work with experienced music professionals that can further their career.

“The goal is still the same for Kotadama as when we started,” explains Evan, “and to write songs that resonate with people of all ages.”

One listen to their album shows Kotadama knows exactly how to achieve their dream with an approach that will take them and their music across the world.

Three Simple Words

Written By: Kotadama

You tell me that we’ll be together
You say our love will last forever
You tell me that your never gonna let me go
But baby if I said goodbye now
I don’t think you’d even cry now
Yours eyes are telling me what I need to know

And after every twist and turn
After every cut and burn
I just want to hear those three simple words
And after every promise made
You don’t have to be afraid
I just want to hear those three simple words

You say there could be no other
And yet I see you run for cover
When I want to hear from you those three simple words
If you knew what you were stealing
Away from me and what I’m feeling
Then baby you would say those words that I need to hear

And after every twist and turn
After every cut and burn
I just want to hear those three simple words
And after every promise made
You don’t have to be afraid
I just want to hear those three simple words
Three simple words…..

See You Tonight

Written By: Kotadama

All I see in this city street is you,
All the things I can’t undo,
All the time that we spent together,

I’ve forgotten what it was like,
To take your hand and feel alive,
Ask me now and I’d do it again,
For your love was worth the pain.

I Just wanna see you tonight,
I Just wanna make it alright,
All we ever seem to do is fight,
I don’t wanna see the tears you cry.

I can’t take back what I’ve already done,
It’s only now I see you’re the one

And all I ask is for one more chance,
One last kiss and baby one last dance

I just wanna see you tonight,
I just wanna make it alright,
All we ever seem to do is fight,
And I don’t wanna see the tears you cry.

I just wanna be with you tonight,
I just wanna hold you so tight,
And spend the rest of my life, with you

Earth Vs Man

Written By: Kotadama

The day has come when we will find
The world has changed before our eyes
Right before our eyes
Too full of all the things we know
Too proud of all that we can’t show
All we can’t let go

I said the day has come when we decide
There’s nowhere to run
Nowhere to hide
The day has come when we decide
There’s nowhere to run
Nowhere to hide

The day will come when we can’t find
The things we need just to survive
Just to stay alive
One day not so far away
One price far too high to pay
Watch her fade away

I said the day has come when we decide
There’s nowhere to run
Nowhere to hide
The day has come when we decide
There’s nowhere to run
Nowhere to hide

The day has come when we decide
There’s nowhere to run
Nowhere to hide
The day has come when we decide
There’s nowhere to run
Nowhere to hide

Nowhere to hide

Nowhere to hide

The day has come when we decide
There’s nowhere to run
Nowhere to hide
The day has come when we decide
There’s nowhere to run
Nowhere to hide

Standing At Your Side

Written By: Kotadama

I’d tell time to stand still
if I were rolling the dice
I’d stay this way forever
Standing at your side

I’d never let you go
I wanna let you know
I’ll be standing at your side

If I could make the rain stop
And the stars to shine at night
I’d make them shine forever
Standing at your side
Ooo

We’d never be alone
Cant make it on my own
Standing at your side

Ooo Ooo Ooo Ooo

Standing at your side
We’d never be alone
cant make it on my own
need you here tonight
standing at your side

Dichotomy

Written By: Kotadama

She's waiting in a dark and desperate line, she's trying just trying to survive,
Her children cry and wonder when, the final hand is dealt to them, Why we all watch on plasma screens , immunized against the scenes,

No matter how this all begun, who has lost and who has won, everyday the church bells chime and the earth rotates one time, one more time.

while rock star's ride in limousines, she stays alive by any means, and when she's begging on the street, where just trying to get some sleep.

No matter how this all begun, who has lost and who has won, everyday the church bells chime and the earth rotates in time, one more time.

our obsessions run so deep, that our lives feel incomplete.

No matter how this all begun, who has lost and who has won, everyday the church bells chime and earth rotates another time, one more time.

Choices

Written By: Kotadama

Everyday everyway so many roads that we can take
Everyday everyway so many choices we can make

Every mould that we cast along the way is there to break
And every time we look back we cannot know just what’s at stake

The things that we say
That we cannot betray
The choices we’ve made,
Define the part we play

There’s a time to breakthrough and there’s a time turn around,
But every time we get lost remember what we may have found

The things that we say
That we cannot betray
The choices we’ve made,
Define the part we play
The steps that we take
That we cannot retrace

Every time that we get pushed into a door that don’t seem right,
There’s only so many times that we will get to roll the dice.

The things that we say
That we cannot betray
The choices we’ve made,
Define the part we play
Gone are the days
Where we can be afraid
Cause life’s just a game
That we cannot replay

As I Am

Written By: Kotadama

Would you run away with me,
If there was no world to see,
I know they won't understand,
If you should take my hand,
No they can't see,
Through my eyes an, what you mean to me,

Can you see me as i am,
And not by the clothes i wear,
Would you stay with me tonight,
And forget what they say is right,

Can you feel.
What is real,
And see the light,
Can you see,
Would you be,
With me tonight

Would you runaway with me,
And just forget the world you see,
Would you be the one to stay,
By my side for every day,
No one can see,
You make up ,
The better part of me,

Can you see me as i am,
And not by the clothes i wear,
Would you stay with me tonight,
And forget what they say is right,
Would you let the world pass by,
Would you let the world pass,

Can you feel .
What is real,
And see the light,
Can you see,
would you be,
with me tonight

Endure

You think the show is over,
You’re sure you’re going under,
And when you think the world stops turning,
And all you touch is burning,
Don’t fall don’t cry just know that everything can be alright,
Just gotta hold on tight,
And wherever you are it’s never too far
Cause through the shadows and the darkness you will see the light,
Just gotta stand and fight,
And if ever you fall you can still crawl

You think all hope has faded
You’re is overrated
And when you think the world stops turning,
And all you touch is burning,
Don’t fall don’t cry just know that everything can be alright,
Just gotta hold on tight,
And wherever you are it’s never too far
Cause through the shadows and the darkness you will see the light,
Sometimes you gotta fight,
And if ever you fall you can still crawl
Just hold on tight and don’t let go then it can be alright

You think the show is over,
You’re sure you’re going under,
And when you think the world stops turning,
And all you touch is burning,
Don’t fall don’t cry just know that everything can be alright,
Just gotta hold on tight,
You’ve almost crossed the line,
Sometimes you gotta fight.

Yesterday

Written By: Kotadama

Looking back on the days gone by,
When no matter how hard we tried,
Can’t let go of the world that’s passed us by,
And all of the reasons why,

Are we lost in yesterday,
What if those things had gone our way,
Wondering what might have been,
Is keeping us away from what’s within,

Looking back on what’s just went wrong,
Has taken us far too long,
Hanging on to the only threads we know,
Oh why can’t we just let them go

Are we lost in yesterday,
What if those things had gone our way,
Wondering what might have been,
Is keeping us away from what’s within,

Are we lost in yesterday,
What if those things had gone our way,
Wondering what might have been,
Is keeping us away from what’s within,

Destinations

Written By: Kotadama

We wake up every single day,
Just trying find the fastest way,
To get through all the things that,
We could be,but we don’t pause to see,
The things that make the world son fine,
To stop is just a waste of time,
No we just keep on trying to cross the line ,
And keep the end in sight,

Lost dreams that were still chasing,
There’s no prize but were still racing,
Towards our destinations,
But we don’t know,
Just when to stop,
Without appreciation of time and all creation,
We seek our destination,
But we can’t see just what we’ve got.

How could of we become so blind,
The best of times are all behind,
And now were left to wonder,
What the hell is here for us to find.

Lost dreams that were still chasing,
There’s no prize but were still racing,
Towards our destinations,
But we don’t know,
Just when to stop,
Without appreciation of time and all creation,
We seek our destination,
But we can’t see just what we’ve got.

And how could we have been so blind,
To miss the things we put aside,
Cause we don’t know just when to stop,
What’s been lost and what we’ve got,

Lost dreams that were still chasing,
There’s no prize but were still racing,
Towards our destinations,
But we don’t know,
Just when to stop,
Without appreciation of time and all creation,
We seek our destination,
But we can’t see just what we’ve got.
