Bio

Koto began songwriting in her late teens, but it wasn't until the age of 24 that she moved to Melbourne to pursue her talents in the music industry. She quickly found it was this city's vibrant and inspiring creative soup that she needed to discover her true musical voice. After many gigs, solo and with groups such as the Songwriter's Collective, The A-Team and intensively with Lamplight, Koto gained the experience and knowledge to define what it was she really wanted to do with her music.

The organic, intuitive style of songwriting that Koto has makes her music highly unique, and at times quite curious. There are many parts of her music that have remained unexpressed because of her difficulty in finding other musicians who can understand where she is coming from and where she is going with her ideas. During her first sessions with percussionist Rachel, she found that the rhythmic voice that was trying to come out, in her found a channel. Since being joined by Violinist Tim, each realm of the music has found it's place, and the creation of a sound that harks back to the past and pushes into the future has been born. There is a certain timelessness to the music, almost a dream-like state that lures listeners into a reverie of unusual comfort, yet with words that keep the mind alert and questioning. It brings the inner, subconscious self to the surface, and our collective self into light.

This trio has played around Melbourne for just under a year, at venues such as Wesley Anne and 303, and at the Ceres Kingfisher Festival 2005.

The band also recieved a recording grant in 2005 from independent label Mescalito Records, a project which is now nearing completion. This CD is scheduled to be available in spring 2006.
