"Road Trip: The Sunset Strip celebrates the Sunset Strip"

While all of Austin baked last week, L.A. celebrated its live music capital contributions with the third edition of the Sunset Strip Music Festival. The Festival kicked off with a tribute to Mötley Crüe, one of the many bands who came of age on the Strip, and proceeded to highlight other bands known for performing in the area.
The three-day festival promotes shows in the Strip's legendary clubs on all three days, and throws a street party on the last day. Headliners of the Fest included Crüe, Public Enemy, Bush, Black Veil Brides, Buckcherry, Semi Precious Weapons (last seen in Austin opening for Lady Gaga), and Nico Vega. Sunset Strip clubs involved in the Fest include Whisky A Go-Go, the Roxy Theatre, Key Club and the Viper Room. The Fest included many up-and-coming artists, and the ones that impressed us the most included Kozmonaut, Deluka, and Queen Caveat. - austinist

"Los Angeles best kept secret"

I was lucky enough last night to be working a show at the Troubadour in West Hollywood. Now under normal circumstances, anyone who gets booked on a wednesday night and warrants a five dollar cover charge is nothing to write home about. However, I have found Los Angeles’ best kept secret. The headlining band, Kozmonaut, only played in front of about one hundred people or so, and of those fifty less than half were familiar with their stuff. It would be an understatement to say that every single person in the venue was absolutely fucking floored by this band. And it only took about thirty seconds into the first track to realize we were watching the real deal.

Picture Iggy Pop as a ballerina with Florence’s pipes. That’s what we were dealing with, and thats just Linus, the vocalist. The band was flawless. They played hard, they played clean, and the energy was relentless and riveting. I kept thinking this is what it would sound like if the Silversun Pickups had a baby with Queens of The Stone Age, and that baby grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, had a really bad acid trip and then wrote a bunch of music. It was dark, there was a decent amount of psychosis, and my jaw was on the floor the whole time.

I didn’t get back to my apartment last night until about 1am. After I took a couple bites out of my grilled stuffed burrito, I made it my business to download Kozmonaut’s self-titled EP from a link on their myspace page. It is in fact everything I hoped it would be. I’m a sucker for live music, and at the Troubadour it was louder, more energetic and hit a little harder, but I think that probably goes without saying when you see a band live. Please do yourself a favor and check these guys (and girls) out. They’re uber talented and have a sound unlike anything you’ve heard. I promise one day you will be able to say “yeah dude, I heard about those guys forever ago”…

Bio

Hailing from Los Angeles California, this 5 piece band is not what's going on with music today...and that's a good thing. "Kozmonaut" puts on a show that is unparalleled in the LA music scene. It's raw and passionate and creates imagery that makes you think of movies like Blade Runner. Front woman "Linus" has a voice that draws likeness to PJ Harvey and Nick Cave, while the band is a cross breed between Queens of the Stone Age and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Nothing is held back from the wall of sound to the effort put forth to put on an amazing show for an overall concert experience. "Kozmonaut" is an arena caliber band that is well on it's way to world domination.
