Still working on that hot first release.

Feeling a bit camera shy

As one half of the legendary 90s rap group DAS EFX, Krazy Drayz is a hip hop pioneer. His wildly playful, rapidfire stuttering dense with rhymes and nonsense words was one of the most distinctive and influential lyrical styles in early' 90s hip hop. While the duo completely rewrote the MC rule book, they themselves were increasingly pegged as a one dimensional novelty the longer their career progressed, despite watching elements of their style creep into countless rappers' bags of tricks.

Krazy Drayz (born Andre Weston) attended Virginia State University where he majored in English. Removed from an active music scene in New York, he was free to develop his signature iggedy sewa style. He started making up gibberish words (anything ending in "iggedy" was a favorite) that added loads of extra syllables to his lines, and wove plenty of pop cultural references into the tongue twisting lyrical gymnastics.

Krazy Drayz caught his big break when he performed at a talent show judged by EPMD though his group didn't win, EPMD was impressed enough to offer them a deal, and the duo became part of the Hit Squad crew of protgs. Signing to the East West label, Krazy Drayz and his group DAS EFX began work on their debut album, commuting between Virginia and New York and mailing tapes to EPMD (then touring the country) for guidance.

Upon its release in 1992, Dead Serious caused an immediate sensation, and is still considered something of a landmark in hip hop circles. The first single, the instantly memorable signature song "They Want EFX," was a Top 40 pop hit and a Top Ten R&B hit, and helped push sales of Dead Serious past the platinum mark. Their follow up album, 1993's Straight Up Sewaside, which went gold, was a fan favorite as was Hold It Down which was released in 1995.

After the break up of The Hit Squad in 95, DAS EFX took a three year absence from recording and mainly toured Europe. By the time they returned in 1998 with Generation EFX, the group was playing more to a devoted but narrower cult audience.

After years of recording songs on his own, in 2012 Krazy Drayz decided to take a break from DAS EFX and pursue his solo career. His first album entitled Showtime, is a return to his original iggedy sewa style and is dedicated to his fans. With songs like Mic Check, Two TurnTables and Put Em Up, ShowTime is a throw back to the 90s hip hop with a current feel.

Drayz also reached out to some of his peers from the golden era of hip hop like Fredro Starr of Onyx and Tek n Steele (Smif N Wessun) to feature on the album. Filled with hot beats from a host of up coming hip hop producers, ShowTime was one of the best independent hip hop albums of 2012!!

2014, finds Krazy Drayz hard at work on his second solo album, still touring Solo, and with Das Efx. Having signed new management not even the skies the limit.
