Drum Media
11/11/06
Spectrum, Darlinghurst

Those keen enough to arrive early for Bertie Blackman's album launch were treated to a set of polished power pop from the evening's openers KRILL. The hip five-piece performed foot-stamping songs, with gutsy female lead vocals and plenty of harmonising..... - The Drum Media

""Into the Woods" EP review"

After their fizzy debut The Sweet Side of Cider, KRILL have strengthened their resolve with Into the Woods....Who Killed the Love in particular is a real delight - to take a stand amongst so many generic girl groups and make this EP a winner. - INPRESS (26th July 2006)

THE STORY SO FAR:

KRILL’s bold move to leave the central Queensland town of Yeppoon for Sydney five years ago was made all the more satisfying when they graduated from rising independent sibling band to a signed major label act.

The four sisters and brother reached a new pinnacle when they were discovered by Sony BMG's Red Label following an extensive seven month on-line search for Australia's best unsigned rock band be crowned UncharTED champions, live on MTV's The Lair in October.

It capped off a remarkable 2007 for Krill which included playing six festivals in two of Australia's capital cities as well as being called-up to support veteran Oz rockers The Hoodoo Gurus, Gold Coast band Operator Please and Bertie Blackman and sharing the same stage with Little Birdy, Dallas Crane, 28 Days and Mammal.

There's no denying the band's influences are varied with the quintessential 80s sound defining their synth-infused college rock music.

Besides a record deal with Sony BMG and a national touring slot on the 2008 Big Day Out line-up, Krill's internet and media presence has increased significantly, sparked initially by a Youtube music clip put together by a prominent US artist.

The video, which was uploaded in mid-June and featured a speed portrait painting of Vegemite on toast to the tune of Krill's 2005 recording of Lady Vegemite, had more than 50,000 views in three days and has since had more than 170,000 hits.
It was featured on national TV in Australia and in the US.

The five-piece indie band first released an EP, "The Sweet Side of Cider" , in August 2005 which built the foundations of their dedicated fan base and led them to supporting The Living End, Spiderbait and Dallas Crane the same year and being placed on the books of Michael Gudinski's Premier Harbour Booking Agency.

KRILL followed up this early success with their 2nd EP "Into the Woods" by touring Germany as part of the official FIFA Soccer World Cup Festival in 2006, playing nine gigs in 15 days in 2006. One gig alone was in front a 10,000 strong crowd.

After two independently released EP's the band is looking to release its debut album in 2008.
