""...a slinky soulful slice of Folk Pop.""

"...a slinky soulful slice of Folk Pop. He's a musical chameleon for sure, but you never get the feeling he's jumping into something he doesn't have a very firm grasp on. And Brown's super-eclectic nature shouldn't overshadow his songwriting talent. Each track on Lassi is memorable melodically."
- Citybeat

""soulful slab of wildly enjoyable Americana""

Brown joyfully roams the landscape of American music styles, skillfully writing songs in the language of bluegrass, Dr. John inspired N'awlins boogie, and country murder ballads." "Overall, One Life Sentence is a spectacular, soulful slab of wildly enjoyable Americana. - Citybeat

"warm Buddha-nature that flows instinctively through his every spoken word and every note of his musical expression"

"Brown exudes a warm Buddha-nature that flows instinctively through his every spoken word and every note of his musical expression." "it's hard to find a musician here in Cincinnati who doesn't hold Brown in high regard."
- Citybeat

Bio

Kris Brown is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and music educator based in the live music capitol of the world: Austin, Texas. He has left very few musical stones unturned; In fact, he has made one of the most compelling studies of American music since Ry Cooder, from guitar with funk legend Cyril Neville to bass with TX powerhouse Charlie Robison, producing tracks for reggae superstar General Smiley and folk darling Ruthie Foster. Kris has slow cooked all of these musical experiences together into an eclectic yet cohesive style of swampy folkadelica.

Kris has a formidable discography including 6 releases as an artist as well as over 50 credits as a session player. He is a known mainstay in the Austin scene on guitar, bass, dobro, non-pedal steel, upright bass, and vocals. Kris has played several hundred gigs as a jazz guitarist and performed with Fred Hersch, Frank Lowe, and Trombone Shorty. As a soul/funk guitarist he has worked with Reggie Calloway (Midnight Star), Cyril Neville (Meters, Neville Brothers), War, and Tiger Don Juan Martin (James Brown). In the realm of Americana music, Kris spent 4 years touring the country playing Tele and Dobro with Shelley King upon first relocating to Austin 13 years ago, and more recently spent a year playing bass with [former Dixie Chic spouse] Charlie Robison. Kris has written 30 songs this year. He currently is balancing his time between touring as a guitarist with the Birds of Chicago and mobilizing to record the follow up to last year's acid folk classic, "Looking for my Zero." Kris is endorsed by RKS Guitars.
