"Krista Martynes gives an outlet to see things other people don't see, and shares with them a different point of view."

Canadian Krista Martynes is a multi-media clarinetist who brings new life to standard and new repertoire. She broadens her performances with inventive improv including audio and video sampling that maintains an acoustic character. Krista is known for her eclectic performance range; from classical to contemporary to improvisation. She performs as a soloist, chamber music, and ensemble clarinetist. Krista continuously adds depth to her boundless creative performances in major concert venues across the globe.

An accomplished classical and contemporary clarinetist, Krista has performed with the innovative franco-german “Orchestre des Régions Européennes” under the direction of Konrad Von Abel, former assistant to Celibidache. She has also performed as the solo clarinetist in the Festival de México en el Centro Histórico and the 19th International Sacred Music Festival at the Abbaye de Sylvanes. Krista performed on period clarinet at the Saintes Abbayes aux Dames, in France, at the Mozart Festival. She also toured China with the Orchestre de la Francophonie Canadienne and recently participated in a CBC recording of Mahler 2 with Alain Trudel. She has participated in the Brockport Chamber Music Festival, Haliburton Chamber Music Festival, the Performing Arts York Region concert series and the Ottawa Arts Centre.

Krista Martynes has been a featured soloist at the Festival Acanthes in both 2005 and 2006 working and performing the works of such composers as Georges Aperghis, Pascal Dusapin, Gerard Pesson, Wolfgang Rhim, and Jorg Widmann. She has been involved in many collaborations at the IRCAM Centre in Paris, performing creations based on her improvisations with live electronics. Krista has premiered major works at the Maison de la Musique in Nanterre and was featured in a theatrical contemporary piece at the Theatre de Nantes, in France. Aside from her performances in France, she also performed as a soloist and chamber musicain in the Musikprotokoll and Transart Festival in Italy, and the Klangspuren Festival in Austria. She lectured at the Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium and performed in the Sound Play Festival as part of the Symposium. Her video commission from New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA), also a Toronto-based group, will be featured in Hamilton and Toronto in 2010. She will also be performing in the New Ways Sound Festival in St Petersburg, Russia in November 2010.

Krista actively seeks new opportunities to further new music, and within the last few years has commissioned pieces from Bryan Jacobs, Brian Harman, Jacob Sudol, and Nicolas Tzortzis. She has developed a new media commission for a piece with clarinet, live and fixed electronics as well as live and fixed video from Julien-Robert Legault Salvail. Krista has been financially supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the SOCAN, the SACEM and the French Contemporary Arts grants, as well as the Aldeburgh Foundation. She has performed under the baton of David Zinman, Konrad Von Abel, Marin Alsop, Scott Voyle, Lorraine Vaillancourt, Veronique Lacroix, Frank Ollu, Michael Gielen and Alain Trudel. Krista had the opportunity to work with the Germany's Experimental Studio des SWR under the direction of Andre Richard, performing and participating in a documentary on the music of Luigi Nono. She was involved with the Aldeburgh New Music New Media program working with the British organization Sound Intermedia and Flat -E. Krista had the pleasure of performing many pieces at the International Computer Music Conference in 2010.

Krista has worked with various contemporary composers including Georges Aperghis, Pascal Dusapin, Gerard Pesson, Wolfgang Rhim, Hector Parra, Vassos Nicolai, Paul Mefano, Jorg Widmann, Zad Moultaka, and Philippe Leroux, which has been inspiring musically, and creatively. Krista has collaborated with Louis Sclavis on his compositions at the Abbaye de Royaumont as an improvisor. In another collaboration, Krista had the opportunity to work with Lebanese composer Zad Moultaka based on Taksim improvisations – these are Arab based improvisations like prayers, based on modes working within a specific framework. She has also worked with composer/clarinetist Sylvain Kassap and trombonist Michel Massot with the Ensemble Transversale 20.21 in improvisation projects. She is also involved with members of the Instant Composers Pool with the Magpie Music and Dance Company in Amsterdam as an improvisor. She has performed with the Baila Loca Dance Company in Rotterdam, and with the DesiDela dance company in Paris. Krista has recently collaborated and performed with sound artist Alexis O’Hara and video artist Dayna McLeod in the Edgy Women Festival in Montreal. She has played in chamber concerts such as the NEM, Ensemble Modern, Klangforum Wien, and Quebec based Ensemble Chorum. She has also part
