Bio
Krista Parrish has been compared to singer-songwriters such as Norah Jones & Jonatha Brooke. However, she found her own sound and has managed to stay true to her own creative style. Growing up in the Philadelphia suburbs, Krista found comfort and inspiration in her surroundings. It was at age fourteen that Krista first strummed a guitar.
Inspired by Tori Amos, Sarah McLaughlin and Dave Matthews, Krista began searching inside herself for a unique self-expression, which was later exhibited in a series of three CDs. To further her knowledge and skills, she attended college as a jazz guitar/vocal major. During these years, her efforts and hours of practice paid off, as she developed a strong sense of melody, soon becoming a gifted songwriter. She could barely keep up with herself, sometimes writing several songs a day.
Krista recorded her first CD, "Introducing Krista Parrish", in her father's home studio in 2000. The compositions were charming and lyrically beautiful. The experience set the stage for her next CD, "Acoustically Yours" in 2001. This CD, also recorded at her father's studio, displayed a lovely guitar style, feathered with intricate finger-picking techniques. Krista's intriguing voice, crisp and clear, began to captivate listeners.
As she continued in college, Krista quickly excelled as a jazz singer in the music program. She performed with jazz bands in the Philadelphia area and with well-known jazz pianist, Tom Lawton. Inspired by jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Krista developed a strong talent for scat singing (vocal improvisation) which soon became her signature specialty.
Krista recorded a third CD, "Taking Chances", in 2002. It was on this CD that Krista truly found her sound, combining jazz, funk, folk and rock in a most unique style. She writes from her heart and many of her listeners identify with her music. Her exquisite guitar technique provides the perfect backdrop behind the provocative, sultry, skilled vocals.
Krista Parrish is a diverse musician who relies solely on herself for a powerful composition. In March 2005, she finished recording her fourth CD, "Introspection", which is drenched with self-expression. With every recording effort, Krista continues to blossom, keeping many fans mesmerized by her intense live performances.
