Grade: 75

World Domination Status:
Progressing well towards world domination
Progressing with some difficulty towards world domination
No chance in hell for world domination

Comment:
With the right production, some of Trites' songs sound ready right now for CHRY airplay or as the background music to a WB teen soap opera — whether that's the goal or not is another question. While I don't expect her to tackle something akin to "The Ryme Of The Ancient Mariner," a song about a long-lost friend, a great night out or anything really, would be a welcome respite, as her setlist consisted entirely of Dear Diary-type relationship songs.

"Aliant gets rocking with a Garage Band Contest across Atlantic Canada"

HALIFAX, Nov. 29 /CNW/ - Aliant, Atlantic Canada's leading information and communications technology provider, today officially announced the provincial winners of its Garage Band contest, which is aimed at young Atlantic Canadians who are active in making music with their friends, family and neighbours.

The regional winners are Kristina Trites, Nova Scotia; Tyler Lombard, New Brunswick; The Chucky Danger Band, Prince Edward Island; and Rayfield, Newfoundland. Each of the winners will play the opening set in their province for the popular reggae/rock band Bedouin Soundclash's concert, which will perform in Halifax, Moncton, Charlottetown, and St. John's from November 30 to December 3.

"We had more than 100 amateur bands throughout Atlantic Canada submit their audio or video demos online at Aliant's youth portal," said Deanna Miller, Manager, Aliant Youth Marketing. "Aliant wants to demonstrate that we're listening to youth and focusing on what's relevant to them. We believe the Garage Band contest is a great way to accomplish that while thanking them for their continued support of our youth-focused products and services."

Selected audio and video demos of the bands are available online to all visitors courtesy of Aliant at www.aliant.net/youth101. Throughout December, visitors also will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite Aliant Garage Band. All voters will automatically be entered into a draw to win one of ten prize packs from Aliant and other music and fashion partners. The winning band or artist will receive the grand prize of a spot on the 2006 Vans Warped Tour.

Bio

Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Kristina Trites is a singer-songwriter who grew up on the outskirts of Halifax, Nova Scotia. She began her career by picking up the guitar when she was 12 years old, and within a week after learning her first few chords, wrote her first song. At age 13, Kristina began playing many bars and music venues around the region.

Since then, Kristina has travelled back and forth from her hometown of Halifax to Toronto, Ontario, working with some of Canada’s finest producers and songwriters, garnering interest both locally and across North America, showcasing at Canadian Music Week, the ECMAs, Juno Fest, as well for record labels and music publishers, and attending countless of song writing workshops and seminars. Kristina’s songs have been played on local radio stations such as Q104’s program Route 104 with Tom Bedell, C100 and CKBW, she has shared the stage with the likes of Matt Mays, Bedioun Soundclash, Rebekah Higgs, The Northern Pikes, and has also donated her time and talent towards raising funds for Community events and causes with Charity organizations such as Music For Good and Songwave Society. Kristina has even lent her vocals to advertising spots for Honda and Atlantic Superstore.

Kristina co-wrote alongside Andrea Wasse (The Weekend) and Brent Bodrug (Alanis Morrissette) a song titled Hang on Every Word, which was featured on the debut EP for 16 year old Saskatchewan singer, Morgan Mayer, and released as the first single. The song spent 25 weeks on the MediaBase HOT AC Top 200 including 9 weeks in the national HOT AC Top 100, and 8 weeks in the Saskatchewan Top 30. A month after the release, it was then charting simultaneously on HOT AC, CHR, and ROCK across Canada.

Currently, Kristina is set to release her debut album, a collection of self penned songs about her tumutulous past consisting of coming to terms with single motherhood stemming from an ex relationship at a young age, abandonment, and bouncing back to from the abyss to achieve a life that she is truly proud of. Songs include “Nova Scotia”, a song Kristina wrote about the glorious winter weather in Nova Scotia, “Tiny Seed”, about her daughter Lennon )named after the one and only John Lennon), and “Comfortably Numb”, about the ins and outs of everyday life.

With her powerful raspy voice and strong guitar playing, Kristina is set to play many shows in the maritime provinces this year and looks forward to sharing her songs to the East Coast and beyond!
