"Kristine St-Pierre Releases Bilingual Album"

Ottawa singer-songwriter Kristine St-Pierre has released Call Me Crazy, her first full-length bilingual album.

A little more than two years since the release of her first bilingual EP Stand Still for A While, Kristine launches a second album that shows off her maturity and sensitivity, all the while keeping with her crazy personality! A familiar face on the Ottawa music scene, Kristine is known for her infectious smile and enthusiastic performances.

Produced by Ottawa’s own Dean Watson, the album includes a number of collaborations with well-known artists and musicians. Among them are Franco-Ontarian singer-songwriter Eric Vanier on the upbeat melody of Streetcars & Trains, and cellist Raphael Weinroth-Browne on the more introspective songs L’épreuve and Je m’en fous. Renowned percussionist Shawn Sasyniuk, with whom Kristine first teamed up during Ontario Pop 2010, adds an exotic touch with his cajon, while Dave Morrow of the band Old Whiskey Road lends his comforting vocals to the mix. Ottawa- and Toronto-based singer-songwriter Blue Blue Satellite adds the finishing touch with his delicate violin.

Kristine recently launched two of her French titles, Je m’en fous and L’épreuve on the Franco-Ontarian television show Coups Francs. Both songs are also being played on community radio stations across Ontario. In addition, the official video for her song Time, produced by Playmakers Studio, is available here.

"Critique d'album"

- Marc Lalonde (Mar. 2013)

"CD Preview: No solitudes here: Kristine St-Pierre is comfortable in both languages"

"Contrary to all the music-industry advice she received, the new album, Call Me Crazy, to be released this weekend, contains songs in both languages. Six are in English and four are in French, including two versions of the title track: Call Me Crazy and Je m’en fous."

"Like I said, St-Pierre didn’t listen. Her English is terrific, and some of her best tunes are in English, including Lake Superior and Wild Lion Tacos, so she knew she wanted to include them. But she wasn’t willing to leave out her French songs."

"Her feelings are reflected in Lake Superior, a soul-searching gem of a song in which she finds her purpose on the shores of the great lake. A similar follow-your-dreams spirit propels the title track, a soft-spoken but strong-willed folky number that features St-Pierre’s soaring voice and slide-guitar accompaniment. The lush French version is layered with cello and extra harmonies."

"Beat-busting highs and a few sour notes"

"Ottawa rocks: Judging by its recorded output, the Ottawa music scene had an outstanding year. A new level of excellence could be heard on albums from Soul Jazz Orchestra, A Tribe Called Red, Jack Pine and the Fire, Loon Choir, The Gallop, Erin Saoirse Adair, Three Little Birds, Kristine St. Pierre, Trevor Alguire, Jeff Rogers and more. Look for the professionalism to continue in 2013; bands to watch include The Strain, Kalle Mattson and Autumn’s Cannon."

"Ottawa musicians, including Kristine St. Pierre, released a string of excellent albums." - Ottawa Citizen (Dec. 2012)

Bio

"Think of a young Joni Mitchell's or Jann Arden's style and wordplay, occasionally venturing into Sarah McLachlan territory, with an effervescent stage presence and a smile a mile wide." Mike Anderson, Canada Parties.

The 31 year-old Canadian singer-songwriter has been known to silence crowds on the sound of her first note. A singer since her young age, Kristine's voice is strong and clear, almost crystalline. While her voice has always been at the forefront, her thoughtful lyrics and beautifully crafted songs are increasingly gaining her attention on the Canadian music scene.

From finger-picked folky ballads to rollicking, bluesy melodies, Kristine's style has been described as both fresh and raw. She is not one to hide from her audience, in fact, her honesty and grace is what you remember.

***

Kristine first released the bilingual five-song EP "Stand Still for A While" in 2010. After two solo tours through Eastern Canada and Ontario, and being a finalist with Ontario Pop, she returned to the studio to work on her debut album.

Released in November 2012, "Call Me Crazy" was named one of Ottawa Citizen's music "highs" of 2012.

Produced by Ottawa veteran Dean Watson (Lindsay Ferguson, Andrea Simms-Karp), the ten-song bilingual album shifts seamlessly from delicate finger-picked folky melodies to rollicking, bluesy toe-tapping songs.

***

Kristine's French songs are on rotation on Radio-Canada as well as community radio stations across Ontario, while her English tracks are on rotation on CBC and other English stations across the country. The official video for her song Time, produced by Playmakers Studio, was released in the summer of 2012. Kristine will be releasing a second video for her song Lake Superior early in 2013.
