"Haiti:Dancin' on the Wind"

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) Here is the story behind Kristy White and what moved her to try and make a difference in the Haiti relief.

White, who just released her first CD, wants her "Song from the Rubble" to be used as part of the effort to restore the people of Haiti. Her CD is called Dancin On the Wind. It's a jazzy collection of music including songs of faith, hope and inspiration.

"Alabama Native and Musician Kristy White"

Birmingham audiences mostly know Kristy White as a musical theatre actress. She appears this month in Birmingham Children's Theatre's production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and has been on stage with Red Mountain Theatre Company, CenterStage Productions and others. But White's first love is music and her new CD is getting rave reviews for its mix of jazz standards and original tunes - including this one, which isn't quite jazz or gospel. It's something else. This is Song from the Rubble.... about the true story of the miraculous rescue of a woman who was buried for a week under the rubble of a cathedral after the Haiti earthquake. - WBHM- Tapestry

Many who frequent the Birmingham, AL theatre scene have already been entertained by Kristy White on stages such as the Virginia Samford Theatre, the historic Alabama and the Birmingham Children's Theatre as a vocalist and as an actor . Although Kristy’s initial career path took her into the public schools as an educator teaching works by Harper Lee and “Papa” Hemingway. Her childhood companions of Puccini, Ella, "The King", Sondheim and even “The Man in Black” instilled a musical foundation and a dream that has grown has high as the roots have run deep in her soul. Kristy has now embraced that "dream deferred" and turned it into a reality with the release of her album, "Dancin' on the Wind".
This move from dream to reality began with Birmingham’s music legend, Marc Phillips (of HOTEL), and a team of noteworthy jazz musicians. A venture starting with covers of loved jazz standards evolved into a fertile songwriting experience for Kristy. Through collaboration with Marc on arrangements for her self-penned songs, Kristy now presents a debut album not only of familiar classics, but also of new, ear-catching modern R&B/gospel originals! Listeners of “Dancin‘ on the Wind“ will find that the music of Kristy’s childhood , her love of story telling and her strong faith have all joined hands and now walk together on a familiar yet vibrant path.
Kristy delights audiences with her easy warmth and charm. . . And more notably, her effortless vocals and inspired songwriting bring a smile to the ear and joy to the soul. A crowd energizes Kristy who then returns that energy through a powerful, heartfelt and intimate performance Kristy’s lilting soprano explores the colors and strengths of her instrument to tell the stories of these songs, old and new, in her own way. Never afraid to step away from the crowd or to color outside the lines using a variety of brushstrokes, Kristy embraces her God-given gifts and encourages you to join her as you both go “Dancin‘ on the Wind“.
