With the globalization of hip-hop, discovering good music seems more of a chore than the passion that many of us remember it being. Unlike the era where Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, and BDP reigned, legends in hip-hop have become few and far between. While not yet a legend, Music For Mavericks Entertainment recording artist K-Riz is determined to revive the feeling listeners once got from hip-hop
One of the first things many heads will notice about K-Riz is his ability to balance style and substance. This duality is the reasoning behind his name. Short for Kahrizzma, the moniker was given to him by his cousin Mazlo who said his flow could grab anyones attention. Most rappers have flow with no content or have content but cant flow, comments the 20 year old artist/producer. Rhyme for rhyme, K-Riz is a thoroughbred on the mic. His ability to bob and weave with his delivery will make him the peoples champ.
The range of K-Riz is evident with his ability to switch from his distinct brand of lyric bravado to narrating a story of single mothers struggle to a song about love or heart break. With such versatility, K-Riz navigates over wax with a cadence reminiscent of hip-hops golden era. Rather than contest his skills, dont be surprised if hip-hops next generation begins subscribing to them.
But the more you listen to K-Riz, the more you realize hes not like most rappers who hide their emotions. I try to be myself in every song I do, says the 6 2 Young Gunner of MFM. Using music for more than a way to boost his ego or impress girls, K-Riz uses his music as both therapy and a way to create change.
Born in Scarborough, Ontario, K-Riz spent much of his life traveling back and forth between Edmonton, Alberta and his hometown. Because the traveling was frequent and at times unexpected, K-Riz was forced be much more responsible than his childhood friends. Many of K-Rizs childhood experiences have allowed him to mature as MC at a faster rate. While most MCs hope youll remember their song, K-Rizs vivid descriptions put you inside the track.
Still a freshman in the game, K-Riz hopes to apply the theory he learned from listening to hip-hop growing up. Using mixtapes and cameos as his practicum, K-Riz is the future of hip-hop you just dont know it yet.
