Bio

At a very young age Krystal Khayne actively began to explore her love of music. As a shy, only child, growing up in an economically challenged neighborhood, singing became her medium to escape into her secret musical wonderland. She always had an active and unbounded imagination, coupled with her vocal ability; she used music as a means to transport her into her own special world. Krystal sang whenever she was sad, happy or excited. Whenever the opportunity presented itself, she sang.

As a young girl, she would sing in her room for hours on end and then some, sort of like having music for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And of course, like any little kid her age, hairbrushes, pencils or anything that remotely resembles a microphone, was used as such. Have you ever stood in front of the mirror and used a brush handle as a microphone? Then… you know what that was all about, she explains. When asked, what do you want to be when you grow up? Her answer was always … a singer.
As a child her grandmother would always sing to her before going to bed. As she sang along, she couldn’t understand why her grandmother was singing in a different key to her but still sounded so good. It was only when it was explained to her, that, her grandmother was singing the “seconds” to the songs, she later understood it was the harmonies her grandmother was singing. To this day, whenever Krystal is in the studio, she never comes up short when it’s time to do harmonies. At the age of 5, her grandmother recognized her passion for singing and encouraged her, by persuading her to sing in church and talent shows. As a junior church choir member, she performed in numerous plays and dance productions. She practically grew up performing in the church. People always described her as that little girl with the sweet voice. Her father introduced to her the Steel Drum (The national instrument of Trinidad & Tobago and the only new percussive instrument invented in the 20th Century) and she quickly excelled at playing this unique instrument.
Krystal comes from a family blessed with talented singers. Some of her fondest memories are of holidays at home, where her family would get together and sing. Born and raised humbly on the island of Trinidad, this versatile, soulful artist, just past her teens, is a naturally gifted singer, who realized at an early age that music was her true calling. This realization is keeping the fire burning, that flame is guaranteed to ignite into a successful musical career.
Although she has been through many obstacles in her life, it is apparent that she has risen above them and has her music and performing to thank for her strength and inspiration. She is happiest when she is performing and easily connects with her audience because of her unconditional love for music. When she performs, it’s like someone turned on a 10,000 watt light bulb. Her vocal range shows that she is a true quintessence of talent.
Her musical influences range from Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Nina Simone, Sade and Erykah Badu to Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Anita Baker, Earth, Wind and Fire but her greatest inspiration came from singing with her grandmother. Although she was born in the land of “Soca and Calypso,” she fell in love with R&B and Pop. Krystal is presently working on her debut album, the demos recorded so far are a mélange of R&B, pop, reggaeton, soca and reggae, which her manager coined, SUN-POP, a worldly musical concoction tinged with sunny Caribbean vibes. Krystal is filled with more passion than ever to pursue her dream of releasing an album on the international stage where the world can enjoy what she has to offer. Music has always meant everything to her, as she so aptly puts it: Music is my all, my everything; I just can’t imagine my life without my music.
