First Day of Winter

Written By: Roger Vines

The First Day of Winter

She stared out the window as the rain turned into ice
Was she worried about the weather, something was not right
There was an ice storm coming late, and things were going to break
A heaviness was on her mind

I walked out of the door, my face slapped by the cold
But nothing could sting more, than what I’d just been told
Like the sky dark and gray, were the words she had to say
She don’t love me anymore

But seasons come and seasons go, rain turns into snow
The fire that blazed in our souls, has slowly turned to coals
Like a tree that stood so tall, but now it lies in splinters
And today is the first day of winter

Well the damage was all done, before the morning sun
The weight and the strain, took a toll on everything
Our love was broke apart, by the ice upon her heart
Never to rise again

But seasons come and seasons go, rain turns into snow
The fire that blazed in our souls, has slowly turned to coals
Like a tree that stood so tall, but now it lies in splinters
And today is the first day of winter

But cold days they will fade, spring is on the way
By the tree there on the ground, a seedling now is found
Love may fall but never dies, for new life will arise
Spring time is coming around

But seasons come and seasons go, rain turns into snow
The fire that blazed in our souls, has slowly turned to coals
Like a tree that stood so tall, but now it lies in splinters
And today is the first day of winter
Oh today is the first day of winter
