Bio
Based in Errington, Vancouver Island, Kumbana is a group of nine musicians who play African marimbas together. In Shona, “Kumbana” appropriately means “friendship.” The band was founded in 2009 by musical sisters Fahlon and Jasmine Smith. The two sisters had been playing marimba for years when they decided they wanted to start up a band. So, seven of their musical friends joined them to form Kumbana Marimba. The band members love to share their music around the Island, and have also recently enjoyed travelling to play at festivals in Vancouver as well as in Penticton, BC. Their first CD, titled “I Saw a Street Performer Do This Once,” was released in the Spring of 2012.
