It's been 13 years since Spanish Harlem line puncher Kurious Jorge dropped A Constipated Monkey, and even longer since his "Walk Like A Duck" video cracked on Yo! MTV Raps. But since veterans are outspitting young punks across the board these days, I anxiously approve Jorge's resuscitating his career by reissuing his heroic and underappreciated artifact. There's nothing fancy here; just a feast of wobbly horn loops, barrio braggadocio, concrete drums and early Beatnuts production. With his soothing flow and ripe humor, Kurious Jorge is everything that hip-hop was and should be. Let's just hope he chases this Golden Age rerelease with some new age gold.

Latino-American rapper Kurious Jorge hails from Uptown Manhattan's 97th Street neighborhood. His brazen talents landed him a guest spot on the Prime Minister Pete Nice and Daddy Rich cut "Three Blind Mice" from their album Dust II Dust in early 1993. Having forged an allegiance with the former Third Bass rapper, Kurious dropped his own single "Walk Like a Duck" later that year with a little help from Pete Nice. The gifted lyricist with a Latino twang released his debut album A Constipated Monkey on Hoppoh Records in early 1994. Applauded by fans of the New York underground scene, the album's Spanglish tone called to mind the work of Queens' Latin rap trio the Beatnuts. Kurious' joint was slightly less vulgar than the Nuts' EP Intoxicated Demons and featured a spicy array of musical influences ranging from salsa to rock & roll. The singles and subsequent videos for "Uptown Shit" and "I'm Kurious" gave the album some longevity on DJ play lists and car stereos. Constipated Monkey afforded Kurious with healthy respect among hip-hop's diehards.
Kurious recently signed with the Amalgam Digital label to re-release his cult class "A Constipated Monkey" with several bonus tracks not available on the original recording. In addition, The Amalgam Digital label will release Kurious Jorge's sophomore album entitled "Monkey Madness... The Real Prosperity" in 2008 which featured production from Mf Doom.
