Bio

Kate won the Adult Contemporary category in the 2012 Unsigned Only song writing competition with her song Wanna Run; the Adult Contemporary category in the 2013 UK song writing competition with her song The Way You Are; and is a finalist in the 2013 NSAI song writing competition with her song It Is Love.

“A great record, full of vocal magic and seductive loops that are by turns playful, wistful and dark. It’s experimental pop that’s still fun, sitting somewhere between Billie Holiday and Zap Mama…self-penned wistful love-songs which are personal, but oddly universal…Eclectic, versatile, part pop, electronic and stylish ‘60s torch rock, all awesome.” Beat Magazine
Kate Vigo has explored her musical inspirations to develop an individual sound that fuses jazz, classic pop, and the influences of Indian Carnatic traditional music. Her 2010 single “The Way You Are” started as a wistful jazz-influenced reflection on hopeless love and developed into a funky pop anthem that was shortlisted in the American-based International Songwriting Contest, the top ten shortlist of APRA’s Vanda and Young Songwriter of the Year, won the Musicoz Award for Best Video and was featured on soundtrack of Australian television drama “Offspring”.

Her musical inspirations include the city funk of sixties girl groups The Shirelles and the Shangrilas, the soul-driven music of Billie Holliday and the lushly written music of Prince. During 2011 (due for release in 2012) she worked on her first album “Blue to Gold” which fuses the organic and the synthetic With producer and composer Jan Skubiszewski at the production helm, Kate has proved herself as an artist in full command of her craft. The album also includes a musical collaboration with Clare Bowditch. “Wanna Run”, the single from the album, was recently selected to be a finalist, from a pool of over 16,000 entries, in the International Songwriting Competition’s Unsigned Category.

“Blue to Gold” features driving tempos and peppy beats and lyrics; Kate says “A lot of my existing work is a little dark and broody, inspired by the beauty in tragedy. Now I feel like I want to have fun and write songs people can dance around in their bedroom to. There is definitely still a dark side to the album though”.

Early 2012 Kate headlined the Hunter and Gatherer Tour.

Kate fronts a five-piece band that features Max Walker on guitar, Lily Walker on vocals and keyboard, Dan MacDonald on drums and Thom Coombe on bass.

2012 – Hunter and Gatherer Tour – with Emmy Bryce: Launceston, Hobart, Adelaide, Sydney.
