"Painting Sounds Premiered on Billboard"

Kyle Dion gets the dance party started with his new EP, Painting Sounds, premiering exclusively on Billboard. After collaborating with Austin Mahone and Grammy-nominated songstess Kehlani (their duet "How We Do Us" appeared on her Cloud 19 EP), the alternative R&B singer keeps it funky on the eight-track offering with his velvety smooth falsetto and snappy beat selection.

Tomorrow's Hits: MisterWives, Raskins & Kyle Dion

"I named it Painting Sounds because I wanted to play with this sound I had created for myself, I wanted to push the sound past its limits sonically and lyrically," he tells Billboard. "I knew I wanted to do a project where every song would have a completely different vibe from the next while still keeping that undercurrent of my own style."

Whether singing about the theory of relativity on "Timed Out" or dimming the lights on "Don't Go," the 21-year-old wunderkind isn't one to follow trends.

Artists to Watch in 2016

"My mindset going into this project was very clear...I knew who I was artistically, I knew the music I wanted to produce," he says. "I didn't express any confusion in this project what so ever ... Painting Sounds is coming from a more confident "this is who I am" place."

"NYLONE (Premiere)"

Kyle Dion is a 21-year-old artist that makes alternative R&B music staight from his bedroom in Los Angeles by way of Florida. If the name isn't ringing a bell, you'll recognize his smooth falsetto from Kehlani's “How We Do Us" on her Cloud 19 EP. (Casual reminder that Kehlani is Grammy-nominated now.) This year, Dion will be releasing his debut Painting Sounds EP. The project was produced by Dion's friends Boowie and engineer Ryan “InstinctzMusic" Summer. On the recording process, Dion said that "the vibes were organic, fun and we were so daring and not bounded by anything, just free minds having fun and creating music."

Today, NYLON is premiering the track "Timed Out." On the concept for the song, Dion told us that "I talk on the theory of relativity, how time is relative and from that perspective how funny it is that everyone is scared of running out of it." The music was sent to him from Oris Beats, a producer based in France.

"When I heard it I was in my room and immediately started writing what became 'Timed Out,'" Dion added. "The inspiration came from me trying to create and get content out there for my fans, fast. I wanted to give them this project ASAP and with that felt a little pressured of time, and then I realized... What is time really?" he added. - Nylon Magazine

"Hot New Hip Hop review"

Get to know Kyle Dion with "Get You Alone."
Kyle Dion is a 21-year-old artist who started making music in his bedroom in Florida and currently resides in Los Angeles. He is perhaps best known for his guest appearance on Kehlani's Cloud 19 EP. He is currently prepping his sophomore project Painting Sounds EP. Over the weekend Dion shared the project's second single "Get You Alone," a Dust & SJ that serves as a useful introduction to Dion's music, which he describes as "jazzy alternative R&B."

"Get You Alone" combines lush vocal layers, steep melodic runs, mystical chimes, and a soothing electric piano chord progression. Kind of Jacquees-esque.

Quotable Lyrics

No one will find out the truth
So don't worry baby
Tell your girls you don't want me
Tell your girls we're not fucking
Tell your friends you're not getting it
Tell them that you're not interested - Hot New Hip Hop

"Tomorrow's Hits"

Singer Kyle Dion nears Adult R&B Songs with "Purple Meadows" (Launch Project/Ghostwriters). Branding his sound "jazzy alternative R&B," he's amassed 100,000 streams for the track on SoundCloud. The track "came about shortly after my birthday," he says. "I recently turned 20, and I think every 10 years you just reflect on what you've done in your life and what you want to do in the future. I symbolized that goal as 'purple meadows,' because when I thought of a purple meadow, I thought of tranquility, peace and that all fits in with the feeling of self-accomplishment." Dion first found an audience on YouTube with a cover of Frank Ocean's "Thinking About You" (2.3 million views) and continues to offer original content. "My fans and I are really tight," Dion says. "I talk to them and they talk to me. The support system I have now without even dropping a project, and just a few songs on SoundCloud, is crazy and exciting." Dion's first mixtape, Sixes & Sevens, arrives Nov. 17. –Amaya Mendizabal (@amayayayaya) - Billboard

"Premiere: Kyle Dion Delivers Paint Splattered Video For “In Your Feelings”"

One thing is for sure: Kyle Dion is definitely onto to something in his latest video for “In Your Feelings.” The track, paired with a series of colorful visuals, delivers an accurate depiction of an intense and passionate relationship.

The video for the single, which is coming from his Painting Sounds EP that was released back in January, illustrates the final moments of a turbulent and destructive relationship. And to show just how complicated or confusing this relationship is, the artist dangles upside down from a tree as he bounces in and out of reality.

The artist repeats the line, “you’re so in your feelings,” as his lady interest angrily chases him around the California wilderness with a chainsaw and ultimately stabs him, spraying out green paint. “There are different layers of meaning regarding the hanging scene, but the one closest to the surface, is the girl hung me there not to kill me, but to humiliate and punish me,” Kyle Dion said in a statement.

We’re guessing another motive for his girlfriend hanging him was just pure rage. Check Kyle Dion’s colorful and explosive video for “In Your Feelings” below. - VIBE MAGAZINE
