Lyrics

To Walk In The Garden

Written By: Kyle David Burkett

A young man once frowned
Over battle grounds
And threw his gun to the sea.
He heard a sound
And it cut him down
And he fell upon his knees.
I was there and I did stare
At the solider in front of me
His dying words were barely heard
But his soul was finally free.

He said, "Oh, lovely face
Full of mercy, full of grace
Won't you take me away
from this God awful place
Tell the woman I adore
That I shall go before her
And walk in the garden with my lord."

The shadow he cast
Was long in the grass
As she put her man in the ground
And the mother to be said
Sing quietly
At the foot of his buriel mound.
With the bills piled high
She looked to the sky
And prayed to Jesus the Son
But she knew from the start
In her broken heart
That her faith had come undone.

She said, "Oh, lovely face
Full of mercy, full of grace
Won't you take me away
from this God awful place
And the man that I adore
He has gone before me
To walk in the garden with my lord."
